Chapter 1400:
His brow knit slightly.
“Didn’t like the food?”
Her eyes widened in surprise.
“How did you know I had lunch here?” She was certain she hadn’t told him.
Jeffry’s gaze dropped before he spoke.
“The director always lets me know when you come by.”
Lydia’s brows drew together.
“You’ve been keeping tabs on me?” The thought of her comings and goings being reported left her unsettled.
Jeffry quickly owned up, sensing her discomfort.
“Sorry. If it bothers you, I won’t do it again.”
There was no hesitation in his apology, only sincerity.
Though not angry, the idea of being quietly observed still sat wrong with her. But with his quick apology, she decided to drop it.
“Just don’t do it again,” she said.
His answer came with a nod.
“Alright.”
Once they were in the car, Lydia leaned toward the window for fresh air, her unsettled stomach urging her to keep it open. Sleep crept up on her before she even realized it.
By the time her eyes fluttered open, the car was idling in front of a courtyard.
“Where is this?” she asked, her voice still heavy with drowsiness.
Stepping out, Jeffry opened the car door for her.
“A friend’s restaurant. You barely touched your lunch, and the food here is worth trying.”
She nodded. For him to recommend it meant the place had to be exceptional.

Inside, a staff member led them into a private dining room.
When Jeffry passed her the menu, she shook her head.
“You choose.”
He didn’t even look at the menu before ordering several dishes. The moment he mentioned steamed grouper, she cut in.
“Skip the fish. I can’t handle it right now.”
He replaced it with a dessert without question.
After the waiter stepped out, Jeffry asked, “You’ve gone off fish completely?”
Lydia gave a small shrug.
“Maybe I ate something off. Lately, even the smell turns my stomach.”
“We’ll stop by the hospital later, just to be sure,” Jeffry replied.
The restaurant’s reputation proved well-earned, and to Jeffry’s quiet surprise, Lydia—who hadn’t had much of an appetite lately—polished off two full plates of spaghetti.
By the time she set her fork down, the fullness left her sinking into her chair, unwilling to budge.
