Chapter 1402:
“You’ve been apart for over twenty years,” Lyla had said warmly.
“Wesley’s missed out on a lot of motherly love. He must want that, even if he doesn’t say it. The best thing you can do is spend more time with him.”
Carola had hesitated, thinking of his distant manner.
“But he hasn’t accepted me yet…”
“That’s just what he shows on the outside,” Lyla had interrupted.
“Every child needs their mother. Wesley’s probably too proud to admit it, but if you keep reaching out, he’ll warm up to you.”
Spurred on by her daughter’s words, Carola had baked a batch of cakes and cookies this morning and then brought them along to Spencer Group. Felix, knowing Carola was Wesley’s biological mother, personally went downstairs to escort her up.
The elevator was packed with Spencer Group employees.
With a bright smile, Lyla turned to Felix and asked, “Is Wesley tied up with something? Why didn’t he come down to meet us?”
The other employees exchanged puzzled glances. Who exactly was this woman? What was her relationship with Wesley? Why did she expect him to fetch her in person?
Felix’s professionalism kept him composed, as one would expect in situations like this. With a straight face, he simply answered, “Mr. Spencer’s schedule is packed.”
“Oh, that explains it,” Lyla said, her lips curving into a playful pout.
“Wesley must be so busy—that’s why he hasn’t had time to see me. I can’t even remember the last time we met.”
Her voice carried a teasing lilt, almost flirtatious.
One of Felix’s brows arched ever so slightly. Was she trying to suggest something with those words? Other than Elena, when had Wesley ever been spotted with another woman? Wesley likely wouldn’t even recall her, yet here she was, pouting about his not making the effort to visit.
Felix’s reaction wasn’t unique—the rest of the elevator passengers wore the same puzzled expression. The unspoken question was clear. Who was this woman? Wesley had never been seen in public with any woman—was it even possible she was his girlfriend?

Within minutes, whispers traveled through the Spencer Group’s employee chat.
“Breaking news! You’ll never guess who I just saw in the elevator.”
“Come on, spill!”
“Felix himself escorted this stunning woman straight to Mr. Spencer’s office. She even complained that he didn’t come down to meet her! You know how Wesley Spencer is—when has anyone ever seen him with a woman?”
“No way. Does that mean Mr. Spencer actually has a girlfriend? That’s going to crush a lot of hearts.”
“Is this a joke?”
“Not a chance. I heard it too. If Felix is walking her up personally, she must be someone important.”
“Hold up—wasn’t Mr. Spencer rumored to be seeing the Harper family’s heiress?”
“Tina, you work right in the CEO’s office. Come on, tell us—who’s Mr. Spencer seeing?”
