Chapter 1436:
The noise roused Gerald from his sleep. His face darkened as he sat up.
“What are you up to now?”
Joseph let out a cold laugh.
“You’ve never appreciated me, Dad. No matter what I do, you always compare me to Lawrence, or worse, to Wesley. Since you’ve already written me off, I’ll prove to you today that I’m the one who truly deserves to take charge of the Spencer Group.”
Even if Gerald’s disdain for him never faded, Joseph was determined to prove he was better than Wesley.
Gerald’s tone cut like a blade.
“What are you plotting now?”
Joseph pulled a folded document from his coat and set it on the table.
“Nothing much. Just need you to sign this.”
“A share transfer agreement?” Gerald’s voice broke as anger seized his chest, and he doubled over in a fit of coughing.
Joseph spoke with unsettling composure.
“No need to get worked up. Just sign it, and I’ll walk away without making things worse.”
Gerald finally managed to steady his breathing, but Joseph’s words only rekindled the fire inside him.
“You ungrateful brat! Are you trying to harm me?”
Joseph produced a pen and shoved it toward Gerald.
“Enough nonsense. Just sign it.”
Gerald’s expression hardened, carrying both outrage and bitter disappointment.
“After all these years, you still haven’t matured—even resorting to threatening your own father!”
“Shut the fuck up!” Joseph shouted, his tone slicing through the air like he couldn’t bear to hear another word.

He snarled, “What gives you the right to look down on me? I’m your son too! From childhood, you favored Lawrence, that failure. Even though I was more capable, you groomed him as the heir and left me to fend for myself. Even when Lawrence became a laughingstock in Klathe, you chose to groom his son, refusing to give me a chance. What did I do wrong? You drove me to this point. If you had passed Spencer Group to me earlier, none of this would be happening!”
Joseph’s fury distorted his face, his eyes wide and burning with rage. Why was he always denied what was rightfully his? Why was he always overlooked, as if he didn’t belong to the family? Resentment surged in his gaze like a fire that refused to die.
Joseph added, “You valued Lawrence, didn’t you? You probably don’t even know that he became such a disgrace because of my doings. That pathetic brother of mine was too easy to manipulate. He trusted a woman, and that’s why he fell apart. That’s the heir you chose over me. Mark my words, Wesley’s downfall is near, and soon, the Spencer family will be under my control!”
“What do you want from me?” Gerald gripped his chest, his breath faltering, his glare blazing with wrath as he fixed on Joseph.
Joseph had no way out, nor did he wish to retreat. This was a fight to the death between him and Wesley. He had endured for years, and now he refused to endure any longer.
