Chapter 1465:

“Help me, and we’ll turn the tables. Don’t you want that?”

A deep frown creased Karen’s brow. Even now, her mother was still plotting.

Zoie’s voice softened, tears welling as she played her final card.

“Karen, you don’t want me to be locked up here forever, do you? This place is full of lunatics. I don’t want to stay with them. Please, help me, just once.” She had always known how to twist Karen’s heartstrings. Play the victim, and Karen would be swayed.

Zoie’s tone grew even more pitiful.

“There’s nothing wrong with my mind. I can’t stay in this madhouse. Please, Karen. You’re the only one I have left.”

Karen hesitated, her voice barely above a whisper.

“What do you want me to do?”

A flash of triumph crossed Zoie’s eyes. Karen was indeed a soft-hearted fool. All it took was a bit of acting, and Karen had walked right into the trap.

Zoie pressed a small pill into Karen’s hand.

“Slip this into Wesley’s food. Once he’s out of the picture, your father and I will finally be free. Your father is still locked up, you know. Wesley will never let him go. Everything depends on you, Karen. Could you really stand by while your parents waste away in prison and in this place?”

Karen lowered her gaze, turning the pill over in her hand.

“Alright. I’ll take care of it.”

Relief washed over Zoie.

“I knew you’d come through for us. I never misjudged you.”

Karen said nothing. When the visit ended, she walked out without looking back. Outside, she paused by a trash bin, opened her hand, and dropped Zoie’s pill inside. She would not let herself be manipulated ever again.

At the Spencer Estate, Elena woke up later than usual.

The rain had poured down all night, but now the morning was bright, with golden sunlight spilling through the curtains and touching her face.

Her eyelashes fluttered as she slowly opened her eyes, only for a shadow to fall across them.

Wesley leaned over her with a smile, his hand above her head, blocking the sun.

“Morning!” His deep, smooth voice whispered near her ear, warm and teasing.

Elena blinked up at him, still half-lost in sleep.

“What time is it?”

He propped himself on his side, one arm behind his head, a lazy smirk tugging at his mouth.

“If you get up now, we can grab lunch together.”

Her brow furrowed as the realization hit: she had slept straight through until noon. It was her first night here, and acting like this felt a bit wrong.

Wesley seemed to read her thoughts. His long, well-shaped fingers gently smoothed the crease between her brows.
