Chapter 1523:

Maddox snapped, “Mind your own business. I’m looking for the guy chasing after my daughter. Don’t get in the way.”

He still hadn’t realized Elena was the woman from the day before.

Elena kept her voice steady, but her eyes were cold.

“And who is your daughter?”

Was this Charlette’s father?

Maddox wasted no time bragging about Charlette’s name.

Yesterday’s encounter made Elena certain that this man and Charlette had a strained relationship. She doubted Charlette had any clue Maddox was searching for Ellis.

Elena asked, “Does Charlette even know you’re here tracking him down?”

Maddox answered, “I’m her father. I don’t need her approval for anything. She has to obey whatever I say.”

Had Charlette not retained some degree of value in his eyes, Maddox would have already bartered her away to the casino boss without hesitation.

Maddox rubbed his palms together, his gaze sliding over Elena from head to toe with a greedy gleam. To him, this young woman carried the scent of wealth.

Curling his lips into a sly grin, Maddox said, “Miss, since you’re acquainted with my daughter, why don’t you hand over some money? I’m penniless—can’t even scrape together enough for food or a drink.”

Karen’s expression soured immediately.

“Who do you think you are? Why should we give you anything? Even if you’re begging, at least realize what kind of place this is!”

If Maddox hadn’t been holding a photograph of Ellis, Karen would never have wasted her breath on him. But now, he was pressing his luck, daring to demand money.

Maddox, the shameless parasite that he was, absorbed the insults without a flinch.

“Begging? You’re mistaken! I’m Charlette’s father. Since this lady is my daughter’s companion, it’s only proper for her to give me something, don’t you think?”

He lifted two fingers toward Elena and added, “I won’t be greedy—just two hundred thousand. Enough for a meal at the restaurant. From the way you’re dressed, that sum is nothing to you.”

Karen scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain.

“Two hundred thousand may be nothing to us, but why on earth should we hand it to you? You despicable old leech!”

Maddox spat on the ground, his performance of vulgarity reaching its peak.

“Enough chatter. Will you give me the money or not?”

Revulsion surged through Karen, and she almost swung her fist at him.

The world had no shortage of shameless people, but none could rival Maddox in brazenness.

Elena restrained Karen, her voice cold as ice.

“The money’s in my pocket. If you’re bold enough, come and take it.”

Maddox brushed aside Elena’s frostiness, his greedy hand actually reaching out toward her.
