Chapter 1553:

Out on the western edge of town, Lydia sat with her wrists tied together. Even while being held hostage, she refused to let her nerves show.

Torin lounged directly across from her, resting one ankle on his knee as he watched her stomach with a look of curiosity.

“You’re pregnant? I can’t say I saw that coming.”

Lydia’s expression stayed icy while her eyes flicked to the knife he held.

“What are you planning?”

Torin let out a careless laugh.

“No need to get worked up.”

Lydia’s hands, still bound, moved in front of her belly as she glared at Torin with a frown. She remembered falling asleep in her own bed. The next thing she knew, Torin had barged into her house, dragged her here, and said nothing the whole way. Whatever he wanted, he hadn’t brought her here for simple payback over betraying Shadow. If that was all, he could have acted against her back at the villa. Clearly, he had something else in mind.

A sudden noise echoed nearby. Someone was coming.

With one brow lifting, Torin said, “Looks like the show’s starting.”

Jeffry spotted Lydia and rushed over, but Torin’s men quickly blocked his path.

Lydia’s gaze sharpened the instant she saw Jeffry alone.

“What are you doing here? This has nothing to do with you. Just leave!”

Jeffry looked her over, relieved she seemed unharmed apart from the rope around her wrists. He let out a quiet breath. Instead of backing down, he met Torin’s eyes.

“You’ve got me now. Just release her.”

Torin got to his feet, flipping the blade in his hand as he stepped toward Lydia. He leaned in until only she could hear.

“Don’t you want to know if this guy really loves you? I’ll test him for you today.”

Fire sparked in Lydia’s eyes as she clenched her jaw.

“Don’t bother. If you lay a finger on him, I’ll make you pay.”

Torin only sneered, brushing off her threat.

“That’s not up to you.”

At Torin’s signal, his men parted, allowing Jeffry to walk ahead.

Jeffry stood his ground.

“Let her go.”

Torin’s lips curled into a smirk.
