Chapter 1555:
But then, Jeffry’s steady voice rang out, shattering her hope.
“Alright.”
Lydia widened her eyes. Was Jeffry serious? Trusting that lunatic Torin’s words and risking his own life for hers—had Jeffry lost his senses? Dying here was a better fate than letting him throw his life away for her.
She desperately wanted to shout at Jeffry to leave, but terror locked her voice, and her body began to shake.
Jeffry looked at her one last time, holding her gaze, and then drove the dagger straight into his own chest. The blade went in deep. Blood soaked through his white shirt. As he dropped to the ground, the bloody dagger slipped from his hand, but his eyes stayed on Lydia.
The ropes finally slipped free, and Lydia bolted to Jeffry’s side.
“Jeffry! Don’t you dare close your eyes. You’re not allowed to die without my say-so. Stay with me! I’m taking you to the hospital.”
She grabbed the dagger, turning a murderous glare on Torin.
“Move your men out of our way!”
Torin was just about to signal his men to stand down when another figure suddenly appeared in the shadows.
Elena arrived, raising a gun as she shielded Lydia and Jeffry from harm.
The sight of Elena nearly broke Lydia’s resolve, and tears threatened to spill.
“Elena, Jeffry’s badly hurt.”
Without glancing back, Elena answered, “Take him to the hospital. I’ll be right there.”
Jeffry’s chest kept bleeding, and every second mattered. Lydia fought back her grief and led him out of there.

Lydia pressed hard on Jeffry’s wound, forcing her hands against the bleeding, desperate to slow it down.
Jeffry’s weight dragged against her shoulder, each step threatening to buckle her knees. She stumbled more than once, but each time forced herself upright, teeth clenched.
At the roadside, Lydia waved frantically until a taxi stopped.
“Hospital—hurry!” she shouted.
The driver took one look at Jeffry’s state and hit the gas without hesitation.
Inside, Lydia held Jeffry close, whispering to him in a rush of fear, clinging as though words alone could keep him alive.
“Jeffry, stay awake—we’re nearly at the hospital.”
“Jeffry, are you insane? Why would you listen to Torin?”
