Chapter 825:

Elena stepped aside without flinching. The popcorn missed her completely—only to explode across the chest and shoulders of a middle-aged man who had just entered the room.

“It’s working hours! What exactly do you think you’re doing?” the middle-aged man hissed.

Bain Poole, the respected director of Foiclens Hospital, entered the scene.

As Bain walked through the doorway, a waterfall of popcorn unexpectedly descended upon him. Annoyed, he fixed a stern look on the nurse and demanded, “Is this really the time for popcorn? Aren’t you supposed to be working?”

Previously arrogant, the nurse recoiled under Bain’s intense scrutiny. Quickly regaining her composure, she glanced around anxiously, trying to deflect her responsibility onto Elena. With carefully chosen words, she pointed at Elena. “Mr. Poole, this isn’t my doing. This woman is the one causing a disturbance and interfering with my duties. Could you please have her removed?”

The nurse’s tone was tinged with deceit, her eyes flashing with a false sense of vindication.

The hospital had become particularly alert about maintaining order due to recent incidents of patients’ aggression against staff.

Elena stood calmly, her posture straight and her eyes observant, choosing silence over defense as she watched the nurse dig her own grave.

Contrary to the nurse’s expectations, Bain, who was usually the most cautious about medical disputes, did not support her. His voice grew stern and commanding. Frowning deeply, his expression turned frosty as he said, “What are you talking about? It’s clear that the real issue here is not her but your neglect of duties. Apologize to her. Immediately.”

The nurse, flustered, replied, “But Mr. Poole, I’m diligent in my duties! Why defend her over your own staff?”

Confusion clouded the nurse. Why would Bain defend a stranger over his staff? Was there an undisclosed connection between him and this woman?

Bain’s unease deepened as he realized the nurse was unwilling to recognize her mistake. It wasn’t common for the Healer to visit, and yet here was this inexperienced nurse, crossing her path. Just the thought of it stirred a rage deep inside him.

Bain was familiar with this nurse. She worked in the records department and was also the niece of the vice director. Her performance had never been up to standard. She was always late, frequently left early, gave orders to her coworkers, and often had disputes with patients. In fact, just this month, three complaints had already been lodged against her.

Now, with the Healer insulted, Bain could no longer remain silent. “I have a clear understanding of what kind of person this lady truly is. I’ll review the security footage to confirm, but as for you…”

With a look of profound disappointment, Bain said, “You’ve been the subject of three complaints this month alone, not to mention the twenty over the past six months. You are compromising our hospital’s integrity. Clearly, you are unfit for this position. As of now, you are dismissed.”

The nurse’s face drained of color as she stammered, “But I… You can’t dismiss me, Mr. Poole! Remember, my uncle is the vice director!”

“Your family ties wouldn’t save your job,” Bain said coldly.
