My little sovereign?
The audience's eyes practically popped out of their heads!
The way these two addressed each other was absolutely unhinged!
"It really is you!"
Pushing past the other judges, Peter strode right up to Juniper, looking her up and down with wild excitement. "You had that hat on earlier, I completely missed it."
"Your eyesight must be going," Juniper shot back casually, showing zero mercy. "I told you to stop doing shady things, but you never listen."
"Hiss-"
The host's expression shifted drastically at her words, while Professor Dawson next to them sucked in a sharp breath.
Good lord.
You couldn't just say things like that out loud.
Yet, to everyone's shock, Peter wasn't angry at all. Instead, he threw his head back and let out a booming laugh.
The scene left everyone around them utterly baffled.
Soon enough.
Peter managed to calm down, though he looked deeply confused. "My little sovereign, did you just say you're Dr. Nocturne? You've got to be kidding me!"
The two had met at an underground pharmaceutical trading market.
He had suffered a sudden medical emergency, and thankfully, she had been there to save his life.
After they got to talking, they realized they shared a lot of the same interests.
Plus, the young girl was unbelievably gifted in medicine, so they stayed in touch. With her help, his medical career had progressed at breakneck speed. Thanks to her guidance, his promotions had skyrocketed.
As for the nickname, she had told him to call her "my little sovereign," and it just stuck.
"How could you possibly be Dr. Nocturne?" Peter ran a hand through his curly hair, firing off questions in fluent English in total disbelief. "You told me Dr. Nocturne was a friend of yours!"
"Did I?"
Juniper blinked innocently, deciding to play dumb to gloss over the lie.
"Didn't you?"
Peter waved his arms frantically, getting worked up as he explained. "You helped me berrow so much research data from Dr Nocturne wanted to thank them personally, but you said the doctor didn't want to see me!"
Because of that.
He had even secretly cried under his covers.
"Ah."
Juniper pretended to think for a few seconds before putting on a look of sudden realization. Then she smoothly pivoted, "I don't remember."
Peter stared at her silently, feeling the urge to cry all over again.
"There weren't any issues with the data you borrowed, were there?" she asked.
"No!"
Peter replied without hesitation. "The material Dr. Nocturne provided contained achievements she had painstakingly researched. Most of that stuff, she's the only one in the world who could have pulled it off."
Just from that alone, he knew the data had to be authentic.
"Yeah."
Juniper nodded, her tone turning earnest. "To be honest, I lied to you from the start. That 'friend' was just me. I am Dr. Nocturne."
"Why..."
Peter stared at her in utter shock, his voice turning hoarse as he pressed, "Why hide your identity? We've known each other for years, my little sovereign!"
"Because I didn't want people to know who I was."
Juniper rubbed her nose, her tone serious. "Back then, there were people all over the world trying to track down Dr. Nocturne. Some even put out a bounty, saying they wanted me dead or alive." 'FindNovel.net
"Come on, I was being hunted. Wasn't I allowed to hide?"
Not to mention, her grandfather had been severely ill at the time.
She needed to dedicate all her energy toward finding medicine for him and didn't
want to invite any unnecessary trouble.
"Is this for real? She's making it sound so convincing!"
The audience in the crowd was completely lost.
"I feel like it has to be real. Professor Peter is a heavyweight in the medical world;
there's no way he'd help her cheat."
"If she's Dr. Nocturne, then what does that make me? Trash?"
"The sky is falling! I was so disrespectful to her before. Is it too late to get down on my knees and beg for forgiveness?"
"We're both human, yet she was a master hacker and a legendary doctor as a teenager. When I was a teenager, I was still asking my mom if the milk in the fridge was safe to drink."
