Grace smiled. "So that's how it was. You mistook her for me."
"I realized my mistake almost immediately," he quickly corrected.
Her expression was gentle. "You must be tired. Let me arrange a room for you."
"Can I stay with you?" he asked, then quickly clarified, "I mean, in the same villa, so we can be close."
Grace thought for a moment. It seemed that was really the only practical option.
After delivering the medicine to the clinic, Sylvia and Gabriel ran into Grace on their way back. Just then, Gabriel's phone rang. He gave Grace a slight nod, answered the call, and went inside the villa.
"The rain is about to stop. The air is so fresh. Shall we take a walk?" Grace suggested with a smile.
"Of course," Sylvia agreed, closing her umbrella. They began to stroll along the stone path that wound through the lawn.
"I've arranged for staff to be on duty through the night," Grace said. "With enough medicine and a doctor on-site, everything should be fine."
"That's good. Hopefully, all the fevers will be gone by morning," Sylvia replied.
"I heard from the administrator that you bought a lot of gummies for the children," Grace said with a smile. "Tell me how much it was, and I'll reimburse you."
"There's no need," Sylvia chuckled. "It wasn't much. Just a little gift for the kids. After attending class with them, I feel like we're all classmates."
Grace's lips curved into a smile. "I invited you here to relax, and instead, you're spending your own money."
"You should be thanking me for giving me the opportunity to buy happiness with my money," Sylvia teased, her eyes twinkling. "You have no idea-I'm so poor, all I have is money!"
Grace laughed softly.
"By the way," Sylvia began, "I hope I didn't cause you any trouble by bringing Evan back without asking."
"Not at all. He came to C Country without telling me. It's a good thing you found him, or who knows how long he would have been wandering around that town," Grace said with a shrug. "I only told him the name of the town when I left."
"That's a relief," Sylvia said.
The two of them had an unspoken rule never to pry into each other's private dives, so Sylvia didn't ask about Grace's relationship with Evan Instead she just smiled. He has a great name." 'FindNovel.net
Grace paused, then let out a soft, exasperated laugh.
They chatted as they walked, and soon they had completed a full circle. As they headed back, they saw a figure walking toward them. The ram had stopped leaving behind small puddles on the ground that reflected the lights like scattered diamonds. The man seemed to emerge from the night itself, cloaked in darkness, his tall frame imposing, his stride steady.
As he drew closer, Sylvia saw that he was carrying a jacket.
"It gets cold in the mountains after it rains," Gabriel said, handing the jacket to
Sylvia while looking at Grace. "She's not dressed warmly enough."
A gentle light shone on Grace's face. "You should be telling Sylvia that, not me," she chided softly.
Sylvia, who had started to put on the jacket, paused.
Gabriel, however, remained unfazed. "I'm heading back inside," he said. He didn't say another word to Sylvia or even look at her as he turned and walked away.
The jacket was far too big on her, making her look like a child wearing her father's coat, but it blocked the wind, and warmth immediately spread through her body.
Once he was gone, the smile on Grace's lips widened. She turned to Sylvia. "See? Was I right or was I right?"
"About what?" Sylvia asked.
"I told you Gabriel was a good man, didn't I?" Grace said, looking directly into her eyes.
Sylvia's gaze flickered for a moment before she gave a soft nod.
"Of course."
