Timothy already knew Sheila wouldn't agree easily.
"I failed her in so many ways during our seven years of marriage," he said, his voice low. "Right now, you're the only one who can save her. As long as you're willing to save her, I'll agree to any condition you name."
Those were the words Sheila had been waiting for.
She had come to understand that the chances of Timothy choosing her were slim to none. If Jessica died now, when he was at his most guilt-ridden, she would forever remain in his heart. Even with Jessica gone, if Timothy didn't want to marry her, he wouldn't.
But here was a chance to make him marry her.
"You'll really agree to any condition?"
"Yes."
"You know there's only one thing I've ever wanted from you. Nothing else. Will you give it to me?” Sheila asked, looking into his deep eyes, both wanting and dreading his answer.
"Yes," Timothy replied without a shred of hesitation. Jessica's life couldn't afford his doubt.
The single word shattered Sheila's heart. He would truly do anything for Jessica. She was getting what she had always wanted, so why did she feel no joy at all? She started to laugh, but the laughter soon turned to tears.
He was willing to marry her, but in doing so, he had given her another, more painful truth: he loved Jessica. Seven years. Their seven years together had cost her him completely.
"Sheila? Will you do it? I'll agree to any demand you make. Just..... donate your liver to Jessica."
“Then marry me,” she said, her voice trembling. “I don't want to marry anyone else. I've only ever wanted to marry you. If you marry me, I'll save her."
Jessica had used seven years of marriage to make him fall in love with her. Sheila could do the same.
"Fine. After the surgery, I'll handle the wedding arrangements. Whatever kind of wedding you want, you'll have it. Now, let's go get your pre-op tests done."
"So soon?"
"She's in a lot of pain."
As Timothy said those words, it sounded as if he were the one in pain. Sheila's heart ached even more. He was showing her, again and again, the bloody truth that he loved Jessica.
But Sheila knew Timothy's
character. Once he made a promise, he would not break it. Yet it was so difficult. The thought of giving a part of herself to save a woman she had disliked since childhood was like a knife to her heart, and she knew it could be planting a time bomb for her own future.
But she loved him, and she wanted to marry him.
She never imagined her dream would come true this way, but she had to accept it. Her lifelong wish was finally within reach. Even if i meant facing danger later, she was willing. She wanted Timothy too much. A life without him would be more painful than death.
Once they were married, Jessica would never be able to come back. Sheila would
have time. She would show him how much she loved him, she would be a good wife, and he would be happy with her.
"Let's go."
When Sheila finally uttered those two words, the tension finally drained from Timothy's face.
They went downstairs together, ready to leave.
"Where are you two going?" Sandra asked.
Now that Sheila had agreed,
Timothy saw no reason to hide the
truth Jessica has liver cancer She
Sheila is a
needs a transplant, and Sheila at
match. She has agreed to be the
donor. I'm taking her to get the
necessary tests done now."
