Chapter 1010:

“She’ll see things my way,” Brandon said, his tone stubborn.

Darden groaned, pressing his palm to his forehead. “You’ve got to be kidding me! She’s planning her wedding with another man, and you’re somehow convinced she’ll come around?”

Brandon stayed calm. “It won’t take much longer,” he said quietly. All that remained was catching Macauley.

Once Macauley was in custody, Brandon could turn both Macauley and Vivian over to the authorities, request a private hearing, and finally put this nightmare to rest.

Darden’s frustration only deepened. He drained his glass in one gulp, but even the alcohol couldn’t wash away the gnawing sense of defeat.

Finally, he blurted out, “Brandon, if you keep waiting, next thing you know, Millie’s probably having Myron’s baby already!”

That earned Darden a sharp look from Brandon.

The thought of Millie carrying another man’s child made the pain cut even deeper.

Brandon had reached out to Giffard before and learned the truth: Millie’s chances of getting pregnant again were almost zero.

They had already lost two children because of his own mistakes. Years after the first miscarriage in Flesta, Millie was still rebuilding her health when she became pregnant again. He was at fault—he had pushed her down the stairs, and the fall took their second child. That incident had nearly cost Millie her life as well.

Haunted by those memories, Brandon took a deep swallow of his drink, desperate to drown the guilt that threatened to consume him.

Seeing how Brandon acted left Darden caught between frustration and helplessness.

“Where did the old Brandon go?” Darden muttered, shaking his head. “You used to be the type to make hard choices without looking back. Since when did you let yourself fall apart over something like this?”

Back then, things were different. Millie had always been there, no matter how late he came home, always waiting for him. No matter what he faced, she never left his side. Millie would squeeze his hand and remind him, “Brandon, I’m still here.”

She would put herself in harm’s way if it meant keeping him safe. With her around, he had never doubted that everything would eventually work out.

Now, though, he was the one who had pushed her away.

Brandon tossed back another drink, but it did nothing to calm his restless thoughts.

“She’ll see where I’m coming from,” Brandon insisted.

Darden let out a weary sigh. Sometimes he wished he could crack open Brandon’s head just to figure out what was going on inside.

Maybe Millie’s absence had turned Brandon into a different man—one who clung to impossible hopes.

“Look, Brandon, I need to be honest with you,” Darden said, not waiting for a response. “You’ve been saying this over and over—that you had your…”

“Reasons, and you had to do this. But what if Millie can’t accept them? What if none of your so-called reasons matter to her?”

Brandon fell silent, considering the question.

“Millie’s never been the type to back down easily. You brought up divorce for Vivian’s sake, and she didn’t fight it. In fact, she made sure the terms worked in her favor. Even when you tried to use the Bennett family’s assets as leverage to force her to stay, she turned the tables and walked away with everything. Once she secured the Bennett family’s legacy, she wasted no time and immediately built a brand-new company. On top of that, she went public with her wedding plans right after.”
