Chapter 1011:
Darden’s voice carried a hint of respect. “She doesn’t hesitate when it comes to big decisions. If she needs to be tough, she doesn’t flinch. Brandon, are you sure she’s going to sympathize with your reasons?”
There was more Darden wanted to say, but he worried it would be too much for Brandon to hear. He kept it to himself—the real question: Do your reasons justify all she’s suffered because of you?
Darden had only known fragments of their divorce, but lately, the whole picture had started to come together. Still, he was Brandon’s friend, and he intended to stay in his corner.
Maybe, he thought, it was time Brandon moved on and found someone else.
Brandon said nothing, his glass untouched as he stared into the dim light of the club, lost in his own regrets. The pounding beat from the dance floor downstairs threatened to drown out all thought.
He tried not to let his mind wander. The idea Darden had put forward terrified him, and he wasn’t sure he could handle it if things really ended that way.
He’d been holding onto it like a lifeline, refusing to let go. If that last hope slipped away, he wasn’t sure he’d survive it.
At last, Brandon broke his silence. “No. She’ll come around. She’ll see why I did what I did.”
They had survived the worst together—near-death experiences, heartbreak, and even the loss of two children. Brandon was convinced she’d see where he was coming from.
To him, everything depended on bringing Macauley to justice.
Realizing there was nothing left to say, Darden let it drop. He figured reality would eventually hit Brandon once Millie walked down the aisle with Myron.
But as he glanced at Brandon, Darden wondered if maybe he should make the first move instead—fight for the woman he cared about. Rumor had it his girl was thriving at work, even earning a promotion.

That thought sparked a wave of urgency in him. Spurred by it, he pulled out his phone and typed a quick message.
“Hey, are you free right now?”
Her reply came fast and blunt. “No.”
Darden frowned, his brows knitting together. He fired off another text. “Are you messing with me right now?”
She shot back, “What, you planning to show up at my shop and help with my sales? Bring your girlfriend too. Is it the same one from last time, or have you moved on already? Anyway, make sure all her luxury goods are bought from my store! Much appreciated.”
Annoyance flared in Darden. He replied, “I’ve told you before, all those supposed girlfriends are just friends. There’s no one else!”
She answered, “Sure, whatever you say.”
That response didn’t sit right with him. Quickly, he texted, “No, wait, I meant there’s no one else but you! You’re the only one I care about!”
She replied with nothing but a string of emojis, clearly telling him to get lost.
Out of patience, Darden gave up and tossed his phone aside in frustration.
Brandon shot him a questioning look.
Unable to keep quiet, Darden muttered, “Women are really trouble, always turning our lives upside down.”
