Chapter 1016:
Charles’ voice echoed in her memory. “He’s always looking down his nose at me, treating me like I’m beneath his notice! The man’s arrogance knows no bounds! Just because fate granted him the privilege of being born first, allowing him to seize control of the company ahead of schedule, and because he was cunning enough to marry strategically for his wife’s family connections—what exactly does he have to feel so superior about?”
Charles’ complaints now rang with uncomfortable truth.
From the very beginning of their interaction, Reuben had regarded Millie with barely concealed condescension. His words dripped with disdain, and his entire demeanor radiated insufferable arrogance.
“Partner with me instead,” Reuben continued with calculated coldness, “abandon Charles entirely, and my path to controlling Evans Group becomes remarkably simple. When that day arrives, our three families—yours, mine, and Myron’s—could forge an unstoppable alliance. We might even possess enough combined power to bring down the Watson Group entirely.”
His voice took on a silky, dangerous tone. “Tell me, Millie, don’t you hunger for revenge against your ex-husband and his precious family? Furthermore, should you choose to stand by Charles, you’ll find us on opposite sides of a very ugly war. I might even find myself collaborating with Watson Group to systematically dismantle Elliott Group piece by piece. Have you truly considered the implications of your choice?”
The threat hung in the air like poison.
Taylor’s face flushed with righteous anger. “Mr. Evans, how dare you speak to her in such a manner!”
But Reuben’s attention remained fixed on Millie, his eyes burning with supreme confidence in his own power. Yet Millie’s serene smile never faltered.
Instead of retreating, she stepped forward, the sharp click of her designer heels echoing against the floor as she closed the distance between them.

Though significantly shorter in stature, she planted herself firmly, meeting his intimidation with unwavering resolve. Her expression remained perfectly composed—gentle on the surface, yet radiating an inner steel that could not be bent or broken.
“Mr. Evans,” Millie began, “if Elliott Group is truly as vulnerable as you suggest, why haven’t you managed to destroy it during all these years of supposed superiority? Elliott Group stands as one of the three industry titans for good reason, and Myron certainly didn’t build his empire by being anyone’s fool. As for your grand plans to carve up Elliott Group…” Her smile deepened with genuine amusement. “You simply don’t possess that level of power.”
Millie saw no point in diplomatic evasion. The moment they had chosen to align themselves with Charles, their fate had been sealed—they would inevitably find themselves at war with the remaining Evans family members.
Even if she had approached Reuben with the utmost humility and deference, he would never have shown her mercy. He would have obstructed her efforts at every turn regardless.
“But bringing down a little company like yours?” Reuben’s lips curved into a contemptuous sneer. “That’s entirely within my reach.”
Millie’s laugh was light and melodic. “Haven’t you been attempting exactly that all along? During the production of Heavenly Melody, while Charles and Oakley were creating chaos and stirring up trouble at every opportunity, how much of that orchestrated mayhem had your fingerprints all over it, Mr. Evans? I’m perfectly aware of your behind-the-scenes manipulations.”
