Chapter 1017:

Reuben’s eyes narrowed to dangerous slits.

“My decision,” Millie declared with crystalline clarity, her gaze never wavering from his face, “remains absolutely unchanged.”

Her alliance with Charles stretched back years, predating even Myron’s involvement in her life. She and Charles had forged an unbreakable partnership. The phenomenal success of Heavenly Melody had granted Evans Entertainment unprecedented influence, giving Charles the confidence to speak with authority within his own family.

Elliott Group had nothing to do with the foundation of that relationship.

“So you’ve made your final choice?” Reuben’s words carried the weight of an ultimatum.

Millie nodded without hesitation.

“If I were to collaborate with you,” she explained, “even in the unlikely event of your victory, I would be nothing more than a decorative accessory—useful for appearances but ultimately powerless beside you. However, if Charles emerges triumphant, then I will have played a crucial role in his battle for the Evans family inheritance. Not to mention, Charles and I have always maintained an excellent working relationship built on mutual respect.”

Her smile brightened as she continued, “Mr. Evans, now tell me again—if you were standing in my position, which option would you choose?”

A gentle breeze stirred through the corridor, lifting tendrils of Millie’s hair and creating an almost ethereal effect around her composed figure.

Reuben studied her for a long moment before suddenly breaking into harsh laughter. The sound was sharp and mocking, devoid of any genuine mirth.

“Millie,” he said with cutting precision, “do you still labor under the delusion that you’re the same pampered socialite princess you used to be?”

Millie’s smile remained perfectly in place, though her eyes had sharpened to the gleaming edge of a blade.

“I’m feeling generous today,” Reuben announced with theatrical magnanimity, “so I’ll give you time to reconsider this decision. In fact, I’ll be even more charitable than that—I’ll give you exactly three opportunities to come crawling back to me and change your mind.”

With those parting words, he fixed her with one final, meaningful stare that promised future consequences. Then he pivoted on his heel and strode away with the arrogant confidence of a man who believed himself untouchable.

His secretary fell into step behind him like a well-trained shadow.

Millie and Taylor stood alone in the now-empty corridor, the echo of expensive footsteps fading into silence.

Taylor practically vibrated with indignation. “He is absolutely insufferable! He doesn’t take us seriously at all—the sheer arrogance of that man!”

But Millie simply watched Reuben’s retreating form in thoughtful silence, shadows gathering in her eyes like storm clouds on the horizon.

After several moments of contemplation, she glanced at the delicate watch on her wrist and spoke with renewed purpose. “We should make our way to the dining area now.”

There was still considerable work that needed to be done.

Taylor gave a quick nod and fell in step behind Millie as they headed toward the dining area.
