Chapter 1029:

Later, he’d believed that Millie had personally trusted Babette with important Watson Group business in Flesta, which was why he’d given orders to prioritize anything related to the Watson Group.

He had explained himself repeatedly except for one detail—he’d saved the wrong person.

He’d even once brought Babette to his private wine cellar specifically to show her the truth and help her understand reality.

But she was trapped inside her own fantasy, completely unwilling to see what was right in front of her face.

Part of him wanted to just tell her everything plainly—that he’d thought she was Millie that day when he came to her rescue.

But he worried that revealing this would crush her pride and only make her hatred of Millie burn even hotter.

So instead, he said carefully, “Saving you that time didn’t mean what you think it meant. And that major contract the Watson Group secured during their crisis period? That was all Millie’s doing.”

“NO!” Babette’s scream echoed off the walls of the hotel suite. She refused to accept it.

The worry in his eyes that day had been genuine—she was certain of it!

And now he was trying to tell her that she was wrong and that Millie had been responsible for saving Watson Group during their darkest hour?

That was impossible. Millie was nothing more than decorative arm candy, always standing behind successful men like Brandon without accomplishing anything on her own.

Millie was worthless!

“Did Millie tell you to say all this to me?” Babette demanded, her eyes turning bloodshot as she glared at him.

Egbert slowly shook his head. “Everything I’m telling you is the truth,” he said quietly.

He pushed himself up from his chair and walked over until he was standing directly in front of her, close enough to see the tears gathering in her eyes.

“I’ve been staying in Crobert for quite a while now, but I need to return to Flesta soon. I’m explaining all of this today because I want you to understand something clearly—there is no possible future between Millie and me. Which means you need to stop causing problems for her.”

He reached out and gently patted her shoulder, hoping the gesture might offer some comfort.

But Babette violently knocked his hand away.

Her eyes were shot through with red as she kept shaking her head over and over, unable to accept what she was hearing. Without saying another word, she spun around and ran out of the suite as fast as her legs could carry her.

This had to be Millie’s doing!

Millie was trying to erase the history between herself and Egbert!

Egbert was giving Millie credit for everything—even claiming she was responsible for Watson Group’s entire successful transformation!

Babette was convinced that Millie must have called Egbert and manipulated him into saying these cruel things just to humiliate her and force her to give up.
