Chapter 1043:

Adkins shook his head slowly, clearly wanting to elaborate further but stopping himself. Finally, he simply released a long, weary sigh.

Millie’s heart began racing with anticipation. She carefully checked to make sure no one was within earshot before leaning forward slightly. “Do you know anything about what really happened to my father in the past? About the circumstances surrounding his—”

“I don’t know anything about that.” Before Millie could even finish forming her question, Adkins cut her off with startling abruptness.

Millie froze, caught off guard by the sudden interruption.

“Anika told me you wanted my opinion regarding the Yaroslav Technology investment opportunity,” Adkins continued, deliberately steering the conversation in an entirely different direction. “My advice to you is this—think carefully about your future with Myron and the stability that relationship can provide. Approach it the same way you once approached your marriage to Brandon—focus your energy on building a fulfilling domestic life. Don’t concern yourself with anything else beyond that, Millie. Do you understand what I’m telling you?”

Millie watched Adkins with quiet curiosity, his serious face revealing how deeply he meant every word.

The look in his eyes said it all—he knew something, but he had no plans to share it with her. He was afraid of something—or someone.

It was clear to Millie that whatever it was, it wasn’t ordinary. Only someone truly powerful could make Adkins tread so carefully.

Still…

Millie lowered her gaze, her lashes hiding the faint storm in her eyes.

The man who had died was her father.

Ever since he passed, her home had lost its warmth. Her bond with her mother remained fragile, as if neither of them knew how to bridge the silence.

There was no way Millie could just let it go. She had to find out the truth.

Pretending nothing happened wasn’t an option. She couldn’t bury her head in the sand and live in denial.

That simply wasn’t who she was.

Still, she didn’t want to argue with Adkins about that.

So, she steered the conversation elsewhere.

Lifting her eyes, Millie offered Adkins a gentle smile.

She placed her glass down and reached for a tangerine, peeling it slowly, the scent filling the air.

“Mr. Stewart,” she said softly. “All I want right now is to get to the bottom of what’s happening with Yaroslav Technology.”

Adkins watched her fingers move deftly as she peeled the tangerine. He knew she wouldn’t stop until she uncovered the truth.

With a helpless sigh, he shook his head.

She truly was James’ daughter—stubborn to the core, just like he was.

After a moment of reflection, he felt a mix of resignation, letting out a soft sigh as he accepted the inevitable.

“There’s trouble at Yaroslav Technology,” he finally said. “I don’t have all the details, but it seems they suddenly decided to reveal their new project ahead of schedule. The situation’s unclear, and investing now would be risky.”
