Chapter 1052:
Both Millie and Taylor clutched travel cups filled with strong coffee, with Taylor releasing enormous yawns every few minutes despite the caffeine.
Millie turned her attention to the view outside her window.
The sky stretched overhead in brilliant blue, unmarred by clouds. The sun shone with confident brightness. Everything about the morning seemed to promise that this would be a good day.
When their car finally pulled into Yaroslav Technology’s parking lot, Millie barely had time to unbuckle her seatbelt before someone rapped their knuckles against her window.
She pressed the button to lower the glass and discovered Anika standing there with an intense expression on her face. After a moment’s hesitation, Millie decided to open the door and step out onto the pavement.
“Is there something urgent you need to tell me?” Millie asked with growing concern.
Anika didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she grasped Millie’s elbow and guided her away from the car toward a more private corner of the parking area where they wouldn’t be overheard.
“Are you absolutely certain you’re going through with this investment in Yaroslav Technology?” Anika asked, her voice carrying unmistakable seriousness.
“Yes, I am.” Millie gave a firm nod of confirmation.
Anika’s brow creased deeply with obvious disapproval and concern.
“Did you know that Jace has decided not to attend this meeting? He’s pulled out completely.”
“No, I wasn’t aware of that development,” Millie admitted with complete honesty.
“I genuinely thought that after your conversation with my grandfather yesterday, you might have gained some clarity about the situation. But it appears…” Anika’s voice trailed off as she shook her head in profound disappointment.
Millie’s gaze dropped slightly before she responded. “I truly appreciate everything both you and your grandfather have tried to do for me. But I have my own strategy for handling this. Please trust me when I say I’m not being reckless or foolish. I would never willingly walk into a trap with my eyes wide open. Honestly, if there were any other viable path forward, I wouldn’t be pushing so hard for this particular project.”

Anika studied Millie’s face with penetrating intensity before asking her next question. “Does this have something to do with Yaroslav Technology’s major order? With the company that’s backing them?”
Millie chose not to respond.
“Millie, my grandfather made himself perfectly clear to you,” Anika pressed, her voice growing more urgent. “Living a good life, being happy and safe—that matters more than anything else. You need to stop digging into your father’s death. Let the past stay buried where it belongs.”
A deep sigh escaped Millie’s lips before she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Anika in a tight embrace.
They stood there without speaking, but the silence communicated everything that words couldn’t express. Each woman understood perfectly what the other was trying to say.
After several long moments, Millie slowly released her hold on Anika and took a step back.
She didn’t offer lengthy explanations or justifications. She simply gave a single, resolute nod.
