Chapter 1070:
Charles let out a sharp laugh.
“If you can show up, why can’t I?” he shot back.
“You’re here to stir the pot, but I’m here to invest. That’s the difference between us,” Charles said coldly, his words cutting like ice.
Reuben’s eyes narrowed, a faint gleam of calculation flickering behind them.
Charles took the seat beside Millie, and for a brief moment, their gazes met—silent understanding passing between them. She had just been thinking that since she was already facing Reuben directly, it might be better to have Charles join her. Although she could afford the one hundred million herself, involving Charles would certainly be more beneficial.
Reuben still had time to target her, and for that very reason, she wanted Charles to grow stronger and faster, forcing Reuben to focus his attention on his younger brother instead. That way, he would have no time left to bother her.
Earlier, after his conversation with Millie, Foley had made a call to the hospital.
Millie listened as Foley confirmed with Spencer that the latter would stay instead of selling his shares and walking away.
This meant the project was not a big risk after all.
Her late-night efforts had paid off, and she had uncovered valuable inside information.
There were, it turned out, several other confidential deals in the pipeline—ones that had not yet been made public.
Courage, Millie had to admit, was one thing Foley never lacked.
Now, at the long table, the four of them sat facing one another—Millie and Charles on one side, Reuben and Babette directly opposite, the air between them humming with quiet tension.
“Charles,” Reuben began, his tone casual but edged with warning. A faint smile played on his lips. “A word of advice—don’t stick your nose into things you don’t fully understand. You might end up losing more than you bargained for.”

Charles leaned back, unbothered. “I’d risk it all just to watch you take a fall.”
Reuben glanced at Babette, and a knowing look passed between them.
If they could corner both Millie and Charles this time, it would be perfect.
Beneath the table, Reuben sent Babette a message. “Are your sources solid? You’re sure the lead engineer from Yaroslav Technology is leaving?”
Babette replied quickly, “Affirmative. He’s been quietly asking around to see if anyone wants to buy his shares. The news is still within a small circle, but I got the update. Someone reached out yesterday, and they’re actually signing today.”
After a short pause, she sent another message. “And for the record, I’d never side with Millie. You know our history.”
Reuben didn’t doubt her after that. He was here to make things hard for Millie—and with Charles stepping in, all the better. He already knew about the tension between Babette and Millie, and he believed Babette wasn’t lying. Two problems solved with one move.
Foley cleared his throat and spoke from the stage.
“Have we reached a decision?” he asked, maintaining his diplomatic smile.
Reuben was the first to respond. “Looks like we have a new contender in the mix,” he said, glancing at Charles. “To make it sporting, I’ll lower my bid—just to give you a fair chance.”
