Chapter 1085:

Yet Millie’s smile remained perfectly unchanged throughout the verbal assault.

She wasn’t bothered in the slightest by their aggressive behavior and harsh words.

If she couldn’t withstand this level of pressure and public scrutiny, how could she possibly hope to restore the Bennett family name to its former glory?

“Everyone, please,” Millie said, maintaining her composed smile while raising her voice slightly. “I understand you all have concerns. Could I ask for just a moment of your attention so I can address them?”

The crowd continued their agitated murmuring, voices overlapping in a cacophony of accusations and demands.

Finally, Millie reached for a heavy object from a nearby table and slammed it down hard against the wooden surface.

The loud bang echoed throughout the space like a gunshot.

Only then did silence finally descend over the gathered crowd.

Millie kept her smile firmly in place, refusing to let it waver even slightly.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we’re barely twenty-four hours into this project’s existence. How can any of you possibly claim with certainty that I’m destined to fail?” Millie asked, her voice carrying calm amusement.

When someone opened their mouth to interrupt, Millie brought the heavy object in her hand down sharply against the table once more. The resounding crack cut through the air like a whip, immediately silencing every voice in the room.

“Perhaps this situation is actually working in my favor,” Millie continued once she had their undivided attention. “Several of you have openly admitted that you only considered partnering with my company because of other people’s reputations, not because of any actual faith in me or my abilities. Now you’re scrambling to sever these nonexistent ties, and honestly? I’m perfectly fine with that. I, Millie Bennett, have absolutely no objections to your departure. What genuinely confuses me is this: why are you all in such a desperate rush to cut connections when we haven’t even begun working together yet? What exactly are you so afraid of?”

Several people’s eyes shifted uncomfortably, unable to meet her direct stare.

The frantic rush to distance themselves from Millie was transparently because of Babette’s influence. Anyone who had conducted even a minimal investigation would understand exactly what had transpired at Yaroslav Technology the other day, and how Babette had orchestrated an elaborate scheme specifically designed to set Millie up.

Not to mention the media hype that Babette had clearly paid for to maximize the damage.

Every single person who had come here today to kick Millie while she was vulnerable, or to formally terminate potential partnerships, had done so because they feared Babette’s wrath more than they valued integrity.

But even though everyone in that room understood this truth perfectly well, nobody possessed the courage to speak it aloud. And Millie chose not to expose their cowardice explicitly.

“Fine. You’ve accomplished your stated goal of severing ties with me. You may leave now,” Millie declared with finality. “As for those who came here specifically to kick me while I’m down and vulnerable, you’re not welcome in this space. Please don’t force me to call security to escort you out.”

Her tone softened fractionally as she turned her attention to the remaining visitors.

“I understand that some of you are here simply because you’re genuinely concerned and want accurate information about what’s actually happening. I’m asking you to be patient just a bit longer. Time will reveal the complete truth. All I can tell you at this moment is that the project is proceeding exactly as planned and remains on solid footing.”
