Chapter 1099:
Babette glared at her. “Explanations for what?”
“Some are even asking for… compensation,” the secretary stammered.
Babette let out a bitter laugh.
“Compensation? They want compensation?” she shouted, her chest rising and falling. “Did I tell them to stop investing? Did I force them to pull out?”
The secretary stayed silent.
“We just spread the news—they chose to believe it and backed off! How is that my fault?” Babette snapped, her voice trembling with anger.
The secretary stayed quiet.
Babette stormed around the office, her heels crunching over the shattered glass scattered across the floor.
Both her cell phone and the landline rang nonstop, one after another. Calls poured in like a flood.
In frustration, Babette hurled her phone to the floor.
Millie.
It was all Millie’s doing!
If that woman hadn’t joined the project, she wouldn’t have set her people loose to spread the news. And none of this chaos would’ve happened!
The secretary stood by, waiting for Babette’s rage to burn out. When the storm passed, she spoke softly. “Miss Watson, what should we do now? And about Millie… should we—?”
She didn’t finish, but Babette caught her meaning.
“She’s just lucky!” Babette snapped. “She didn’t even know Spencer planned to leave. She invested with Charles without knowing anything!”

Yes, that must be it.
The more Babette thought about it, the more convinced she became.
Millie had lately poured her money into gold and copper, likely desperate for a comeback.
Babette believed even Millie herself thought she had lost; her face said it all when she got off that plane.
Pure luck. Nothing more.
She wasn’t that capable.
“Besides, even if their engineer stays and they receive a minor order worth ten million, that’s nothing,” Babette said.
Grinding her teeth, she added, “Watson Group has bigger projects than that.”
The secretary, startled, quickly agreed. “Yes, just a small deal. Only small firms like JM Investments would treat it as a big deal.”
Babette’s mood lightened a little.
“Then, Miss Watson, about the other companies…” the secretary began.
“Just say we were misled too,” Babette replied coldly. Then her gaze sharpened. “Yaroslav Technology likely leaked the information on purpose. Understand?”
The secretary smiled and nodded. “Understood.”
After she left, Babette sank into her chair, eyes blazing with hatred.
