Chapter 1117:
Even though it might have started as a strategic bluff, Millie had still managed to turn a significant profit there.
“Just because she made some money on gold doesn’t prove she has any real competence whatsoever,” Babette snapped back, her exasperation clear in every word. “She only purchased gold as a distraction—a cheap, manipulative trick to hide the fact that she was actually gambling everything on copper! Every single penny she earned from those gold transactions was part of an elaborate deception designed specifically to fool me!”
Brandon listened to Babette’s entire defensive rant in silence.
corners of his mouth.
“So in your view, everything good that happens to her is just luck, every success is merely a coincidence,” he said slowly. “Don’t you notice any pattern emerging here? Let’s examine this copper situation more carefully. The mining company deliberately withheld crucial information from the market, and the reality is that nobody had access to completely accurate information. Yet somehow she still managed to identify the problem and seize the opportunity when it presented itself. When the Watson family first rose to prominence decades ago, we also caught the wave of economic change at exactly the right moment and secured our position in Crobert’s business landscape. If you want to apply your logic consistently, then our family’s entire success was built on luck as well.”
“That’s completely different! How can you possibly compare her to the legacy of the Watson family?” Babette protested immediately.
Watching Babette’s indignant, defensive expression, Brandon pressed forward. “All right, let’s say for argument’s sake that every one of her victories has been pure luck. Haven’t you ever heard the saying that luck itself is actually a form of capability?”
Of course, Babette had heard that before. But she absolutely refused to accept it as the truth.

“So what if she’s riding a temporary streak of good fortune?” Babette shot back defiantly. “Luck always runs out eventually. When that inevitable day comes, that’s when someone’s true abilities get exposed for what they really are! Real power and lasting success come from actual competence and skill!” She declared this with absolute conviction.
Brandon studied Babette carefully, observing how her intense anger was completely clouding her judgment and preventing her from thinking rationally. He realized there was no point in trying to change her mind right now.
The problem here wasn’t whether Millie lacked business acumen or capability at all. It was Babette who stubbornly, almost desperately, insisted on viewing Millie as incompetent and worthless.
Throughout these past several years, Millie had been making quiet but genuinely significant contributions to Watson Group’s success behind the scenes.
As for the true extent and value of these efforts, Brandon—as the actual decision-maker who reviewed all the numbers—held a complete and crystal-clear understanding.
“Take a three-day leave starting immediately to clear your head,” Brandon said with finality. “You don’t need to concern yourself with any company matters during this time.”
This was essentially a forced suspension, strategically preventing her from making any reckless moves or decisions within the company.
Babette was still seething with dissatisfaction, but there was absolutely nothing she could do about it. Brandon wielded absolute authority throughout the entire company.
