Chapter 1220:
One held his present for her, and the other held a brand-new Hermès bag.
“It’s from Millie,” Charles explained.
“She wanted to thank you.”
Trudy’s smile deepened.
She hadn’t just helped Millie—she’d helped herself, too.
Truthfully, even knowing there was nothing between Charles and Millie, the constant gossip had still stung. Now, that chapter was closed, and she’d gained something far more tangible in return.
“I saw the livestream. Babette looked like she was about to explode,” Trudy said, hugging the bag.
Charles burst out laughing.
“Millie just wanted to stir things up to throw Jose off and speed up the stock deal. Who could’ve guessed Babette would jump in and make such a mess?” He couldn’t hold his laughter anymore.
They’d been wondering how to leak the story subtly.
Too much would seem staged. Too little, and no one would notice.
But Babette had unknowingly done the job for them.
Thanks to her, everyone believed it. The media had been tipped off by her directly, convinced she wanted to humiliate Millie. Given Babette’s open dislike for Millie, no one doubted her motives.
Everything had fallen into place perfectly.
“If Babette finds out she helped Millie instead of ruining her, she might just faint,” Trudy said, giggling.
Charles smirked.
“The contract’s signed, but the process isn’t done yet. Millie wants to keep it quiet for now, so Babette won’t find out anytime soon. Still, this alone will keep her fuming for days.”
The two exchanged a look and burst into laughter again.

Charles and Trudy split off, each getting swept up in their own busy day.
Back at JM Investments, Millie had barely stepped through the doors before trouble found her.
Jose barreled toward her the second he spotted her in the hallway.
“Millie!” His voice boomed with outrage, echoing through the lobby.
Taylor moved protectively, but Millie touched her arm and stepped forward to face Jose herself.
She greeted him with a calm, unfazed smile.
“Is there something on your mind?”
Jose let out a humorless laugh.
“You’ve got a lot of nerve. You made a fool out of me!”
Millie held her ground, the corridor’s cool lighting sharpening the lines of her steady face.
Her tone stayed even.
“In what way did I fool you?”
“You never intended to transfer those Yaroslav Technology shares to the Armstrong Group,” he shot back, jabbing a finger in the air between them.
“You spun some story to cover your tracks and strung me along!”
His outburst drew people peeking around corners, curiosity sparking as they recognized the raised voices.
“Miss Bennett?”
