Chapter 1286:
“No, no. This requires a promotion. From today onward, Brandon Watson is the Supreme Scumbag of the Entire Universe.”
“Yes! Earth isn’t a big enough stage for the disgrace he’s earned; we’re going intergalactic.”
That evening, the city’s elite arrived early for their usual gathering. This time, it was hosted at a different private club. After their previous bet, Napier, Helga, and Brea were all in excellent spirits—especially Helga.
After all, Millie was about to become her daughter-in-law. That thought alone brightened her mood.
So what if Millie once had feelings for Brandon? Everyone encounters a terrible person or two in their lives. What mattered was that Millie was with Myron now.
Inside the beautifully furnished hall, Wade looked like he had swallowed something bitter. He had been the loudest one mocking Millie last time, after all.
“Wade,” Helga said as she approached him, her smile warm and flawless, “do you have anything else you’d like to say now?”
Her golden dress shimmered under the lights, making her look even more striking—and just a touch triumphant. She clearly hadn’t let go of what happened last time.
With syrupy sweetness, she added, “Oh, and since you lost the bet… tonight’s bill is yours, Wade.”
Her tone was soft and courteous, but everyone there heard the sting underneath.
Wade shot her a frosty look, then turned stiffly toward a carved wooden lion nearby.
“The game isn’t over!” he grumbled.
“Millie’s still a junior. How does this count as a victory?”
“But this ‘junior,’” a voice behind him replied, “took part in every major shift in Watson Group’s development, and her role was decisive.”
Helga turned, and there was Adkins, leaning on his cane.
“Adkins!” she said, hurrying over to offer her arm. Anyone who spoke up for her future daughter-in-law instantly won her favor.

“Adkins, do you have to get involved?” Wade snapped.
Adkins raised a slow, steady hand, gently refusing Helga’s support.
“I’m fine,” he said, taking one careful step after another until he stood face-to-face with Wade.
“Just face it, Wade,” he said calmly.
“James stood alone years ago, and no one came close. And in this generation? Millie may not be the absolute best yet, but she’s already extraordinary.”
He raised a hand, stopping Wade before he could cut in.
“And let’s be honest—she did all of this without the advantages most young people from our circles are born with.”
By now, a cluster of listeners had formed around them, soft murmurs of agreement spreading through the group. Most of their own grandkids were still trying not to let the family business collapse on their watch. But Millie? She was blazing a trail of her own.
Helga nodded vigorously.
“Don’t drag up old stories, Wade,” Adkins continued evenly.
“Whatever happened between your daughter and James… that belongs to another lifetime. Millie probably doesn’t even know those things ever took place.”
“That’s right,” someone chimed in.
“Let old grudges stay buried.”
