Chapter 1298:

Everyone turned to look.

Babette stood there silently, her eyes locked on Millie amid the circle of people.

Myron tightened his grip on Millie’s hand. His brows furrowed as he asked, “How did you get in?”

Babette raised the invitation she was holding. She had stolen it from Brandon’s office and used it to enter the venue.

Myron glanced at Millie. She shook her head, clearly signaling that she had never sent one to Babette.

“I took it from Brandon,” Babette said.

“We never sent an invitation to Brandon,” Myron replied. He had made sure Brandon was occupied elsewhere, so inviting him had never been a possibility.

“I don’t know the details. I only heard that someone dropped your engagement party invitation at Watson Group, and the receptionist sent it to Brandon after realizing what it was.” She opened the card.

“The strange thing is, there was no name written on it, so I have no idea who it was meant for.”

Basically, it was a blank invitation.

Millie recalled that one of the cards had indeed gone missing earlier. They hadn’t thought much of it at the time. Misplacing one or two during delivery was normal, after all. But the fact that it had ended up with Brandon was strange. Who could have sent it to him?

Millie and Myron exchanged a brief look. Myron gave a slight nod and immediately sent a message instructing someone to review the security footage.

Millie then turned her attention to Babette.

“Did you come here for a reason?” she asked.

Babette wore an evening dress and held a small bag.

She seemed hesitant, but finally said, “I brought you a gift. I wanted to congratulate you on your engagement.”

Adriana rose at once and approached Babette. She could still vividly remember what had happened in the underground parking lot not long ago. In the middle of their conversation, Babette had come out of nowhere and slapped Millie.

Millie had defended herself, but this was her engagement celebration, and Adriana refused to let anything spoil it.

“What gift are you giving her?” Adriana asked bluntly. It was clear she didn’t like Babette.

She was well aware of the Yaroslav Technology crisis—she had even shown up to help for a few days. Foley and Spencer said nothing. They were key members of Yaroslav Technology, and they didn’t like Babette either.

Adriana took the bag from Babette.

“Can I open it?” she asked.

Babette nodded.

Adriana opened it and found a delicate box inside. She lifted the lid and saw a brooch. It looked like a fairly ordinary gift.

She examined it carefully, found nothing strange, and handed it to Millie.

Millie took it, studied the brooch for a moment, then looked back at Babette.

Millie didn’t speak right away. She shifted her gaze to Foley, then to Spencer. Both men only shrugged, indifferent.
