Chapter 1314:
Millie didn’t argue. Instead, she asked calmly, “Since you won’t speak to me, can I make one request?”
“You dare to request something from me?” Wade slammed his hand on the desk.
Millie’s eyes drifted to the potted plant. Her father had moved it during his last visit.
“I’d like to take that home, if it’s alright, Mr. Butcher,” Millie said.
Wade followed her gaze and immediately understood.
“You want to save it, then bring it back to win my approval, don’t you? That’s an old trick!” Wade said, looking smug.
Millie smiled as she turned her head.
“I just want to keep it for the memories.”
Her father had died young, leaving her very few belongings to hold onto as keepsakes.
“Preserving it as a specimen would mean a lot to me,” she added.
Wade studied her face carefully.
She seemed sincere. She never mentioned James directly, but after a moment, Wade understood what she was implying. Even so, his bitterness toward James still burned fiercely—and it extended to James’s daughter as well.
“It’s only a plant, and it’s almost done for. If you want it, take it. I’m not so stingy,” he said, pretending he didn’t care.
“Thank you, Mr. Butcher.” Millie smiled, walked over, and gently lifted the pot into her arms.
She bowed slightly.
“Goodbye, Mr. Butcher.” Then she walked out.
She left—just like that?
Wade had expected her to be adamant, unwilling to leave.
After hearing at the gathering how much she resembled James, he had prepared thoroughly, certain she would show up. And she had.
From the moment she stepped into his office, he’d been testing her.

Watching her look unsettled by his little tricks had delighted him. But before he could enjoy it properly, she was already out the door.
Did she really take his words so seriously when he told her to leave?
Wade rubbed his scalp irritably.
Should he call her back? No. That would be embarrassing, especially since he was the one who had chased her off.
He had even told her never to come back.
Wait… hadn’t she said she would come back sometime?
Ha. She would definitely return soon—probably carrying a revived plant, or a brand-new one.
That would surely happen.
Meanwhile, Millie left the Butcher Group with Taylor, carrying the potted plant.
Taylor glanced at Millie and found the whole situation a little strange. Millie was dressed in pointed heels and a stylish outfit, yet she was carrying a wilted plant as if it were something precious.
“Millie, what is that?” Taylor asked at once.
“I asked Wade for it,” Millie replied. Then she added, “Taylor, do you happen to know anyone who really knows their way around plants?”
