Chapter 1316:

“Hmm,” Wade replied.

Millie led him to the sofa and asked Taylor to bring some coffee.

Wade sat down, taking in the clean, peaceful layout of her office. There was plenty of open space.

But then something on her desk caught his attention.

He stood up.

Millie reached out as if to steady him, but Wade waved her off, signaling he didn’t need help.

Leaning on his cane, he made his way over.

“This little fellow really came back to life,” Wade said, pointing at the plant she had taken from his office.

Millie nodded with a smile.

“Taylor took me to her friend’s mother’s shop. She’s incredible. She got it healthy again in just a few days.”

“Taylor’s friend’s mother?” Wade repeated, finding the explanation oddly confusing.

Just then, Taylor walked in with the coffee.

Millie took it from her and said with a smile, “This is Taylor, my assistant.”

“Taylor, Mr. Butcher was just saying how impressed he is by your friend’s mother’s plant restoration skills,” Millie added, glancing at her.

Taylor replied shyly, “I only happened to know the place, so I took Miss Bennett there. Do you like plants, Mr. Butcher? I can give you her contact information if you’d like.”

Wade nodded. He motioned to his own secretary, and the two of them left.

Once the office door closed, Millie walked over and poured coffee for Wade.

Something else on the desk caught Wade’s attention—a photo frame holding two pictures.

One was a photo of Millie with Myron and little Ari.

The other was an older photo of Millie as a young girl, standing between Nicole and James.

The two pictures sat side by side in the same frame.

Millie had just finished pouring the coffee when she turned and saw Wade staring at the photos, a faintly nostalgic look in his eyes.

Wade snapped out of it and glanced her way. Millie was watching him too.

He suddenly felt a little flustered, so he quickly pointed at the plant.

“Now that it’s recovered, I’ll be taking it back,” Wade said.

Millie’s expression changed immediately. She rushed over and shielded the plant.

“You gave this to me, Mr. Butcher. How can you take it back now?”

Wade’s lips parted slightly. He was taken aback.

This wasn’t the reaction he had expected.

She was supposed to show him the revived plant, he would pretend to appreciate it, and then claim he wanted it back. Millie would agree and let him have it, hoping for some approval.

Then he would say, “So that was why you wanted it in the first place—to please me!”
