Chapter 1318:
Outside, the sky was bright and clear, clouds drifting lazily past.
Millie finally pulled herself back.
“Things are much better now. My mom lives with me and Myron,” she said, offering Wade a small smile.
Wade looked at her without thinking. For some reason, he felt a trace of sympathy.
“Are you marrying Myron?” he asked.
Millie nodded.
“Yes. The day is coming up soon. We’ve already sent out the invitations. Will you come to our wedding?”
Wade wanted to say no, but when he met her eyes, the words wouldn’t come out.
“I’ll check my schedule,” he muttered, looking away.
“If I’m busy, I won’t be able to make it.”
Millie caught the side of his face and smiled.
If he wouldn’t go only if he was busy… then that meant he’d show up if he was free, didn’t it?
Wade couldn’t read Millie’s mind. He turned back and saw her smiling at him.
His emotions tangled strangely inside him. Her face reminded him of Nicole, but the way she spoke and carried herself felt so much like James.
Back then, James had broken his daughter’s heart, and she’d rushed into a marriage with someone she didn’t even love. From the outside, her life had looked perfect, but underneath, everything was falling apart.
Yet when it came to James’s daughter—Millie—Wade realized he didn’t feel the same hatred he had for James.
And in the beginning, he hadn’t hated James either. If he had, he never would have allowed his daughter to share meals with the man those few times. Everything had changed only because of what happened afterward.
No.
Wade snapped out of his thoughts.

Millie could never find out.
Fortunately, Millie had gone back to sipping her coffee and wasn’t looking his way.
Wade let out a quiet sigh of relief.
After a moment, he walked over to her computer. The photos Myron had sent were still displayed on the screen.
“Nice photos,” Wade said.
Millie came over, nodded, and said, “We’re trying to choose which ones to put up at the wedding venue.”
When Wade looked at the photos, his expression shifted, a mixture of emotions crossing his face.
“I’ve always liked Brandon more, out of the younger guys,” he admitted.
Millie glanced at him, paused for a few seconds, then said, “He’s my ex-husband.” She added with a smile, “And… let’s just say our divorce was pretty messy.”
Wade had heard pieces of the story too—something about a social media personality stepping in as a third party. He also remembered hearing that the same person later ended up on the police wanted list.
People also said that after everything fell apart, Brandon had tried to win Millie back.
