Chapter 1320:

“Thanks,” he said.

“No problem,” Millie replied.

They were standing at the entrance of JM Investments now. Millie escorted Wade all the way to his car before turning back.

Once the driver pulled away, Wade settled into the back seat. His secretary, still rattled, glanced back from the front and said, “Mr. Butcher, that moment earlier really scared me.”

Wade shot her a sharp look, then raised the divider between them.

Alone in the back seat, he pulled out his phone and called his daughter.

She picked up almost immediately.

“Dad?” she called out.

“What’s going on? Why aren’t you saying anything?”

Wade’s face tightened with emotion.

“I think I might have made a mistake,” he admitted, his voice heavy.

“Dad, what did you do now?” Kristen Butcher asked, already suspecting the answer.

She knew exactly what kind of man her father was—quick-tempered, mischievous, and always itching to prank someone.

“Millie Bennett,” Wade said casually.

Kristen fell silent.

Wade quickly tried to justify himself.

“She’s James’s girl. She stopped by recently. I figured she’d be as irritating as he used to be, so I pulled a small stunt on her.”

Kristen let out a tired sigh.

“Dad… James has been gone for years. Why pick on his daughter for something he did?”

Wade had no good reply, so he stayed quiet.

After a long pause, Kristen said, “Anyway, she’s young. She’ll probably just let it slide.”

“That’s what I’m afraid of…” Wade muttered, before describing what he’d actually done.

“Dad! Have you completely lost it?” Kristen burst out.

“Your pranks were annoying before, but telling Millie to reconsider her relationship with her ex-husband when she’s about to marry Myron? Are you out of your mind?”

Wade scratched his head, like a child caught misbehaving.

Kristen continued sharply, “Put it this way—it’s like when I finally left my horrible ex and found someone decent, and then someone tells me to get back with him. How would that make you feel?”

“I’d let them have it!” Wade blurted out.

“Exactly. And that’s the nonsense you just pulled.”

Wade had nothing left to say.

The car eventually rolled into the Butcher Group’s parking lot. Back in his office, his secretary approached.

“Mr. Butcher, should we continue keeping an eye on Millie?”

Wade sighed and waved a hand.

“No. Leave it.”

Millie probably wanted nothing to do with him now. She wouldn’t likely come back.

The secretary sensed something was off but didn’t dare ask questions. She slipped away quietly.
