Chapter 1326:

At Butcher Group’s headquarters, Wade’s sour mood had set the tone the moment he arrived. He could still hear his daughter’s voice from the night before, every word heavy with disappointment.

“I’ve told you over and over, Dad. You really need to control that temper of yours,” Kristen had scolded.

“Word’s already spread that you’ve been running your mouth about Millie in front of your old buddies. Then you go one step further—marching up to her place just to pick a fight!”

Her tone had softened, but the hurt in her eyes was unmistakable.

“I know you mean to defend me, but this is only making me look bad.”

Left alone with his thoughts, Wade couldn’t help but admit she was right.

Millie had no one left in her corner, yet he had made it his mission to make things harder for her.

She had come to see him, simply trying to find out more about James. She had even brought a present as a peace offering.

He thought back to the day he’d insisted on showing up at JM Investments just to put her on the spot.

All those years of practical jokes and stubborn pride suddenly felt insignificant compared to the guilt weighing on him now.

His brooding was interrupted by a gentle knock. His secretary poked her head in.

“Mr. Butcher, there’s a visitor from JM Investments waiting in the lobby.”

“Let them come up,” Wade replied, a flicker of curiosity crossing his face. He wondered who it could be—maybe Taylor, Millie’s assistant, sent to deliver a cold message.

No matter who Millie sent, he doubted they’d bring good news.

A few minutes later, the door creaked open again.

“Mr. Butcher, your visitor from JM Investments is here,” the secretary announced.

Wade looked up, half-expecting Taylor.

Instead, a giant potted plant came edging through the doorway.

Wade stared at the leafy green bundle in confusion as it inched its way inside.

Slender arms wrapped around the pot, and when Wade let out a confused sound, a familiar face peeked out from behind the greenery.

Millie smiled brightly.

“Mr. Butcher, I remembered how much you admired that plant you gave me. Since I couldn’t give back the original, I decided to pick out a fresh one for you.”

She motioned for him to take a good look, her fingers gently stroking the glossy leaves.

Sensing the moment, the secretary quietly slipped out and closed the door behind her.

Wade found himself at a loss for words, staring at Millie’s easy grin.

He had expected her to turn her back on him after everything he’d said and done. He never once imagined she would walk in carrying a brand-new potted plant.

If she truly wanted to smooth things over, he’d assumed she would have either handed the old one back yesterday, or dragged it here today—swallowing her pride along with the embarrassment.

Yet Millie had brought a different plant, making it clear she genuinely cared about the earlier one.
