Chapter 1341:

“Mr. Elliott…” he began, looking between Helga and Myron, clearly struggling to find the right words.

Myron, used to moments like this, remained composed.

“Let’s not make this awkward,” he said evenly.

Millie watched, feeling a touch of helplessness.

And yet…

Her gaze drifted to Nicole.

A quiet hope rose inside her. Nicole deserved someone new. James had been gone for years, and Millie wanted her mother to find comfort again.

But then an old face surfaced in Millie’s mind—a man who had harmed her, wanted control over her, and had taken her photos in secret.

Hayden.

Millie’s eyes returned to Nicole.

Anyone would be acceptable… except Hayden.

Nicole looked at Millie at the same moment.

Millie was the one to look away first. She lowered her gaze to James’s photo and stayed silent.

Helga, still cheerful, kept calling her boyfriend closer so she could introduce him properly to her late husband.

Beside Millie, Nicole spoke in a low voice.

“I haven’t visited him in prison for a long time,” she said.

Millie knew exactly who Nicole meant.

“Alright,” Millie replied softly.

Helga’s playful mood continued in the background. Millie turned to Nicole and called gently, “Mom…”

Nicole glanced over.

Millie went on, “If you choose to move on, you can. I believe Dad would want you to be happy.”

Still looking at James’s photograph, Millie added quietly, “I want you to be happy too. I just… hated him.”

She kept her eyes down, though she could feel Nicole’s attention resting on her.

They both knew exactly who she meant.

“I shouldn’t decide who you care for, or who you choose to be with,” Millie said, her voice steady but restrained.

“But he can’t be part of your life.”

Those buried memories still stirred disgust.

Millie sensed Nicole’s gaze shift away. She lowered her head slightly, letting the boundary stand without pushing any further.

The rehearsal ended without delay.

After changing clothes, Millie sat in the back seat of the car, lost in thought.

A sudden urge rose inside her.

She wanted to face Hayden.

She hadn’t seen him since that court hearing years ago.
