Chapter 740:

While the caregiver puzzled over what steps to take next, Millie was already inside the venue, focused on her work. She moved from one staff member to another, double-checking every detail before rehearsals began.

Once rehearsals started, Millie made sure to walk through each stage mark, following the script precisely, her microphone always in hand as she sang. A few days of rest had restored her voice, leaving no trace of the previous strain. Notes rang out in the hall as her singing filled the space, and everything unfolded without a hitch.

Minutes stretched into hours. When it wrapped up, the entire crew broke into applause.

“Miss Bennett, those effects were perfect. If the live show is anything like today’s run-through, everyone will be talking about it for weeks!” one of the technicians remarked.

With a warm smile, Millie thanked them and expressed her appreciation for their effort. She was eager to change clothes, sweat clinging to her skin after all that work.

Barbara walked alongside her, following her to the dressing room. “I’ve handled the press outside,” Barbara assured her. “Once you change, you’ll be able to leave easily.”

Millie nodded in response.

“And just so you know, Mr. Elliott has already arrived. He’s here at the venue and would like to have dinner with you tonight,” Barbara added.

Millie acknowledged the message, giving Barbara a gentle pat on the shoulder. “Thank you for everything today.”

Barbara smiled back. “I’m happy to help. It’s all part of the job.”

Myron had secretly rewarded her with a generous paycheck for looking after Millie, so she was committed to doing her part wholeheartedly.

Barbara gave Millie a playful nudge toward the dressing room. “Go on. Hurry up and get changed!”

With a small laugh, Millie grabbed her outfit and stepped inside. Barbara, meanwhile, waited outside, softly humming to herself in good spirits.

Inside, Millie slipped into fresh clothes and caught a glimpse of her reflection. She noticed the scabs on her neck—some peeling away, revealing patches of new skin underneath. She wondered if makeup would be enough to hide them.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a gentle knock at the door. Reaching for a scarf to cover her neck, Millie opened the door, her old clothes in hand, only to find the hallway empty.

Peering around the corner, she caught sight of someone disappearing down the corridor. Barbara had mentioned Myron would be there, so she assumed it was him.

A smile tugged at her lips as she started to walk out. “Myron, you made it—” But instead of Myron, Brandon appeared right in front of her.

Millie’s muscles stiffened, a faint tremor running through her. She instinctively tried to step away, but Brandon blocked her exit.

The fact that she had immediately called out for Myron struck a nerve with Brandon, jealousy flickering in his eyes. He glared at her, voice tight with anger. “What’s with that 100K? Were you expecting someone else instead?”
