Chapter 859:
Millie could see the seriousness in her best friend’s eyes.
She scattered the last handful of fish food into the clear water, and then reached over and took Alexia’s hand in both of hers, squeezing gently.
“I’m in love with him,” Millie said simply, her voice steady and sure. “Alexia, please don’t worry about me anymore. I’m not forcing myself to feel anything or pretending to be happy. This is real.”
Alexia remained quiet for a long moment, her sharp eyes still studying every nuance of Millie’s expression.
Millie held onto her friend’s hand, understanding that true love didn’t always have to be the passionate, earth-shattering kind you read about in romance novels.
What she had with Myron was something different—something steady and genuine. He respected her completely and took the time to really understand who she was as a person.
At a time in her life when Millie had convinced herself that her heart was too broken to ever love again, he had somehow helped it slowly bloom back to life.
Seeing that Alexia still looked uncertain, Millie leaned in close and whispered something in her ear.
Alexia’s eyes went wide with surprise.
“Are you serious right now?” Alexia looked her up and down with new eyes, as if seeing her friend in a completely different light.
“Completely serious,” Millie nodded, a soft blush creeping across her cheeks as she confirmed everything she’d just revealed.
Finally, Alexia’s expression softened into one of genuine belief and relief.
If Millie wasn’t truly ready and willing, that level of intimacy would never have happened between her and Myron. It was proof that her feelings were real and deep.
It seemed that Giffard had lost this particular battle long before he’d even realized he was fighting it.

At least he’d finally accepted reality and was moving on with dignity.
“I’m so glad to hear that,” Alexia said, genuine warmth flooding her voice. “You know what I was thinking before?”
“What were you thinking?” Millie asked, curiosity evident in her tone.
“I was seriously planning to kidnap you if you said you didn’t really love him,” Alexia admitted with a laugh. “Just like when we were kids, and I’d drag you away from trouble, even when my brother would get furious with me afterward.”
Millie felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes as she pulled Alexia into a tight, grateful hug.
“You’re such a sweetheart,” Millie murmured against her friend’s shoulder.
“Says the woman who’s too good for this world,” Alexia replied, pulling back to look at her friend’s face with affectionate concern. “Just look at yourself—you’re practically glowing with happiness now.”
Her voice grew more serious, filled with protective love. She wished that from this time forward, Millie would be safe from any more pain.
Millie and Alexia finally opened their hearts to one another, speaking honestly for the first time in what felt like forever. Once Alexia knew that her friend was truly happy, the weight lifted from her chest, and the restless thoughts that had been consuming her finally quieted.
