Chapter 872:

“I’m telling you—it can’t come out!” Vivian insisted, her voice growing shriller. “I’m still competing with Millie, and Brandon wants me to win! If people find out I’ve been lying about being sick, how am I supposed to beat her?”

Eugene just stared at her with cold disgust. He’d heard enough of Vivian’s pathetic excuses to last several lifetimes.

If he actually wasted time listening to every excuse she came up with, nothing would ever get accomplished around here.

Eugene was just an employee trying to do his job professionally.

But he made a mental note to ask Brandon for a hefty bonus after dealing with this nightmare situation—he definitely deserved hazard pay for putting up with Vivian’s disgusting behavior.

With that satisfying thought in mind, Eugene quickly arranged for a nurse to keep an eye on Vivian and then walked out of the room. He had more important things to handle.

His footsteps echoed down the sterile hospital hallway as he made his way to Brandon’s private room.

Eugene tapped gently on the door.

Silence greeted him from the other side.

After waiting a reasonable moment, Eugene carefully opened the door and stepped inside.

Whether or not to release Vivian’s real medical information to the press was ultimately Brandon’s call to make, not his.

He approached Brandon’s bedside, noting how pale and distant his boss looked.

“Mr. Watson, those reporters outside are demanding answers,” Eugene said in a professional tone. “Do you want me to release the real information to them?”

Brandon didn’t respond immediately. His eyes stared blankly at the ceiling.

“Mr. Watson?” Eugene tried again, a little louder this time.

“Handle it however you think is best,” Brandon finally answered, his voice barely above a whisper and as rough as sandpaper.

Eugene nodded once. “Understood, sir.” He turned and left the room, closing the door quietly behind him.

That was all the permission he needed. Brandon had basically given him free rein to make the decision, and Eugene knew exactly what he was going to do. Vivian had been making his life miserable for way too long, and he’d been thoroughly irritated with her dramatics for just as long.

So, of course, he was going to tell the reporters everything! It would be his absolute pleasure.

After Eugene’s footsteps faded down the corridor, Brandon was left completely alone in the sterile hospital room. The silence felt heavy and oppressive around him.

It wasn’t long before another soft knock interrupted his thoughts, followed by the sound of the door opening again.

Babette stepped inside, her face tight with worry and exhaustion.
