Chapter 978:

“Are you jealous, or just sulking?” Casimir teased Babette, a playful smirk tugging at his lips.

Babette shot Casimir a cold glare, yet he either ignored or failed to notice her irritation as he continued to irritate her. “Wow, Millie really is something. She’s with Myron now, but Egbert still can’t seem to give up on her.”

“If you’re only going to make snide comments, maybe keep them to yourself,” Babette snapped, turning on her heel and marching away.

Just before making her exit, Babette shot Millie a sharp look and sneered. “She might be James Bennett’s daughter, but the investment world is ruthless. I wonder how she’ll survive it.”

Babette had been convinced that, with Myron in the picture, Egbert would finally see Millie for who she was and give up on her. Yet Egbert still acted like Millie’s loyal admirer, hovering close by and eager to help.

Babette could only assume Millie was stringing Egbert along behind Myron’s back.

What other reason could there possibly be?

With one last scowl aimed at Casimir, Babette stormed off.

Casimir simply offered a casual shrug, making it clear he was only there for the entertainment and had no stake in any of this.

Still, he had to admit Babette had a point—surviving in this industry was no easy feat.

And it wasn’t just Babette and Casimir whispering doubts; the same skepticism floated through plenty of conversations nearby.

“Sure, the launch is impressive, but if her company folds in a few months, everyone will laugh.”

“Yeah, remember what happened to her father, James? He went from the top to nothing. What hope does Millie have now?”

“James built his reputation at Mirougw’s best investment bank, jumping from analyst to managing director in just four years. He was only 28 when he came back with a massive investment. Millie has nothing. Can she even last in this cutthroat industry?”

“Isn’t she dating Myron now?”

“As if Myron controls the entire Elliott family. And let’s not forget about…”

“Brandon, no way he’d let Millie succeed without a fight.”

“What’s your point?”

“I mean, imagine how Brandon feels, seeing his ex-wife doing better with another man. If Millie ends up more successful with Myron, that’ll be a huge blow to his ego, won’t it?”

“You’re right.”

“Notice how Brandon hasn’t said a word yet? The Watson Group is at the top of Crobert’s corporate world. If they wanted to, they could crush JM Investments in an instant.”

A chorus of nods and murmurs swept through the room as the skeptics found common ground.

Brandon made no appearance and sent no congratulations, making his feelings on the matter clear to everyone watching.

Though Millie heard the whispers, she chose to ignore them all.

Only last night, Brandon had sent Eugene over with a check in hand.
