Chapter 991:

When Myron thought back to their first meeting, his expression filled with fond amusement and respect. She didn’t need him hovering protectively by her side. She didn’t need him to diminish her natural radiance by trying to share her spotlight.

“Tonight is her moment to shine,” he murmured with satisfaction.

And indeed, Millie was absolutely luminous as she worked the room with masterful skill. Whether she was faced with genuine goodwill or subtle challenges from various guests, she handled every interaction with remarkable grace and poise. She wielded her influence and extensive network of connections with the effortless ease of someone who had been born to this world.

Even those guests who had disappeared from public view for years, regardless of their true motivations for attending tonight, could find absolutely no fault with her impeccable manners and diplomatic responses.

This left those guests who had arrived with the specific intention of giving Millie a difficult time completely unable to criticize her behavior or find any weakness they could exploit.

From the VIP viewing area on the second floor, Napier glanced down at the main floor before turning his attention to Derek and Norma, who were seated at a nearby table.

“She truly has inherited her father’s natural presence and commanding aura,” Napier said with genuine appreciation.

Derek nodded slowly, his weathered face showing unmistakable admiration for what he was witnessing.

“It’s such a tragedy that James died so young,” Derek said with a deep, heartfelt sigh.

Napier studied Derek’s expression for a moment before speaking again. “I seem to remember that you were quite eager to establish business connections with him back in those days, always hoping to arrange some kind of partnership or collaboration?”

Derek let out a knowing chuckle as he lifted his glass to his lips. “Your family was doing exactly the same thing, constantly trying to win his favor and secure his alliance. To be perfectly honest…” He paused to set down his glass and continued in his aged but still strong voice, “Back in those days, you could probably count on one hand the number of people in all of Crobert who didn’t want to partner with James Bennett.”

Napier laughed heartily at this observation. “You’re absolutely right about that.” James had been positioned to become the fourth major power center in their city’s complex political and business landscape.

Forming a partnership with him could have helped any existing faction rise straight to the very top, securing an unparalleled position of influence and control throughout Crobert.

“It was just such an unfortunate tragedy that Myron’s grandfather passed away far too early in life,” Napier said after a thoughtful pause. “And then his father died early as well. Now the Elliott family legacy rests on Myron and his siblings. However, I must say that I believe Myron shows quite a lot of promise for the future.”

Napier suddenly directed a particularly meaningful look toward Derek, loaded with unspoken implications.

Derek snorted with obvious annoyance, setting his glass down with enough force to create a sharp clattering sound against the table.
