In the hospital, it was a place accustomed to witnessing death.
What significance does a wheelchair hold in the face of death?
“Liberty, we’re here!” Mrs. Lewis called out, waving as she spotted Liberty approaching.
Duncan’s expression was gloomy, as though someone owed him tens of billions and had yet to repay him.
While Liberty was speaking with George moments ago, Duncan overheard her address him, suspecting George was connected to Liberty’s ex-husband’s family.
This news left him feeling quite upset.
The Brown family seemed to linger; Liberty frequently encountered them, who often insisted on eating with her and pestering her.
She had been divorced for over six months; what did the Brown family want from her?
Did they really believe that Liberty was only desirable to Hank? The Brown family certainly excelled at showcasing Hank’s worth.
Before Liberty lost weight, Duncan had no aversion to her; he simply thought she should shed some pounds, believing that being overweight was not healthy and could lead to complications.
So, when Liberty joined Lewis & Co., Duncan encouraged her to run a few laps around the office daily to aid in her weight loss—not out of dislike.
Duncan would never feel negatively toward the lighter Liberty. He couldn’t pinpoint when he fell in love with her; he only knew that he had never disliked her, regardless of her size.
Liberty approached them.
“What did your ex-husband’s brother-in-law want?” Mrs. Lewis inquired.
Duncan remained sullen, pursing his lips, unwilling to ask Liberty himself.
“Hospitals.”
Upon hearing this, Duncan frowned.
Mrs. Lewis was also aware of the Brown family’s matters, particularly those concerning Mrs. Brown and Hank, so she asked about the history of Liberty and the Brown family.
She was somewhat taken aback, saying, “Didn’t Hank treat Jessica well? How could she stab him to death? If it had been Chelsea, I wouldn’t be surprised. Who is this woman that her sister-in-law would want to kill her?”
Liberty responded, “I’m not sure what led to the couple turning against each other. It’s possible that Hank was violent during their argument; he has a history of domestic violence.”
Hank had previously abused her.
At that time, she fought back, chasing Hank several blocks wielding a kitchen knife, which scared him enough to deter him from harming her again.
Liberty added, “Mr. Repton rushed to the hospital right after receiving the call. He still doesn’t know the reason behind the murder.”
Mrs. Lewis glanced at her son and addressed Liberty: “Liberty, although you and Hank are divorced, he is still Sonny’s father. Do you want to check on the situation?”
Liberty was eager to find out about her ex-husband’s well-being, but she also wanted to take a moment to greet Mrs. Lewis and Duncan.
