Liberty offered her a few comforting words.

“Serenity and Elisa went to the vegetable market today. Sonny should have followed her back to my hometown. I called Serenity to ask when they would return.” Liberty did not decline the request from her former in-laws.

Regardless of whether Hank could move on, Sonny was his son, and it was appropriate for him to visit Hank in the hospital.

A divorce is a divorce; Liberty never spoke ill of Hank in front of their son, nor did she teach him to harbor resentment toward his father. After all, Hank was fulfilling his child support obligations.

Mrs. Brown nodded through her tears, feeling a sense of dread that her son might not survive. Yet, she continued to pray fervently for his recovery.

Liberty stepped aside to call Serenity.

Serenity answered the call quickly. “Sister, what’s going on?” she asked, concerned since Liberty was at the hospital caring for the hard-nosed yet soft-hearted Mr. Lewis, and her sudden call made Serenity anxious.

“Is Sonny with you?” Liberty inquired.

“Elisa and I returned to our hometown, and the trip was too long for Sonny, so he stayed behind with Zachary at his company. Is Mr. Lewis asking to see Sonny?” Serenity assumed it was Duncan who missed him.

Sonny would visit Duncan at the hospital every few days, and while Duncan could be tough with adults, he softened around Sonny. A few tears from Sonny would quickly melt his heart.

After a brief silence, Liberty replied, “Serenity, something has happened to Hank and Chelsea. I don’t know the details, but Jessica stabbed both of them. Chelsea is not severely injured and her life is not in danger, but Hank is in the emergency room.”

room for several hours. The situation appears to be dire. His parents are deeply concerned that he may not survive, so they pleaded with me to take Sonny to the hospital. If Hank doesn’t make it, please ask Sonny to send his father on his last ride.

Serenity was momentarily taken aback and then asked, “Sister, is this true? Chelsea was stabbed by Jessica, right? Wasn’t Chelsea the one who was seriously injured? Hank took good care of her; could he really be to blame? Hank has a violent streak that’s hard to change; is domestic violence involved again?”

“I don’t know the details. Chelsea was injured by Jessica while trying to save Hank. It seems Jessica’s target was Hank; she intended to kill him. Hank, being a big man, was overpowered. Either he was caught off guard, or he just didn’t see it coming, as Jessica attacked suddenly.”

Before their divorce, Liberty once made a harsh statement regarding Hank’s domestic violence. She said that if he ever laid a hand on her while he was asleep, she would not hesitate to take action against him—unless he stayed awake all the time or never returned home.

Hank was taken aback, and the couple felt so embarrassed that they refrained from repeating their actions.

Knowing Hank’s current predicament, Serenity felt a sense of satisfaction. However, for the sake of her nephew, she kept her feelings hidden and told her sister, “I will call Zachary and ask him to take Sonny to the hospital.”

Liberty agreed with a hum.

Understanding that her sister was busy, Liberty quickly ended the call.

When Liberty returned to her former in-laws, the emergency room door finally opened.
