Duncan remained silent. The doctor had only mentioned that he had a chance of recovery, but did not guarantee that he would fully return to his previous state.

“Uncle Duncan, come on!” Sonny, understanding the adults’ conversation, waved his arm at Duncan, urging him to join them.

Duncan affectionately ruffled Sonny’s hair.

Zachary interjected, “My sister bought a restaurant, and it’s currently being refurbished. With just a few renovations, it will be open for business soon. Duncan, you can see how hard my sister has worked. You can’t give up.”

Duncan replied, “Alright.”

Liberty had never discussed business matters with Duncan, and he had never asked. He believed it was impossible for him and Liberty to be together again. Unless he made a full recovery, he would not pursue her any further.

If Liberty were to meet someone better…

The thought of Liberty marrying another man twisted Duncan’s heart like a knife, intensifying the pain in his legs.

“All You Can Eat is still operational. She changed the business model, allowing two assistants to buy shares and share in the profits. The restaurant will be managed by these two small shareholders. Liberty retains 80% of the shares, has signed the contract, and hired two additional assistants to help run things. She only needs to check the accounts daily, freeing up time to focus on the new restaurant.”

Liberty’s new restaurant required a larger investment, and she had reinvested the money and deposits from All You Can Eat into it.

Duncan groaned and fell silent.

He recognized that Liberty was working hard to earn money, but her efforts were not for him; they were aimed at providing better living conditions for Sonny.

Of course, Duncan also hoped that Liberty’s career would continue to flourish. Her goal was to establish a significant presence in the catering industry, and her All…

You Can Eat could launch numerous chain stores. Zachary hugged Sonny, then gently set him down and said, “Sonny, go help your mother. Uncle Duncan and I need to talk.”

“Okay,” Sonny replied obediently.

Zachary then stood up and wheeled Duncan out into the corridor, asking, “Duncan, why were you suddenly discharged from the hospital? Is it related to Hank’s accident?”

After a moment of silence, Duncan candidly admitted, “Hank is also in the hospital now, and he’s Sonny’s biological father. I don’t want Liberty visiting that scoundrel too often.”

Duncan was discharged from the hospital, and since Liberty needed money for her business, she went to his house to care for him, leaving her little time to visit her ex-husband daily.

Zachary sensed there was something off about Duncan’s abrupt discharge from the hospital. He felt compelled to defend Liberty: “You mentioned that Hank is Sonny’s father. My sister will visit him for Sonny’s sake, but she won’t go every day. You’re overthinking this. You still care about my sister, yet you keep pushing her away.”

Duncan replied, “Zachary, we’ve been friends for years. If no one else understands me, I thought you would. Look at me now; how can I provide Liberty with happiness? She shouldn’t be burdened; she’s lost a lot of weight taking care of me.”

Moreover, Liberty hadn’t yet developed feelings for him. She was merely helping Duncan because her mother had asked, and Liberty had mentioned opening a new restaurant that required funding. Duncan never suspected that Liberty was using him for money. Additionally, Liberty felt she was repaying him for a past favor.

She believed he had done too much for her and felt that she owed him a great deal.
