Hayden had a team of bodyguards, and she could ask one of them to drive Kevin back to the hotel. Considering this, Hayden replied softly, “Dad, it’s fine, but please don’t drink too much wine.” Donald responded, “That will make me drunk.” He relied on his wife to take care of him when he was intoxicated or high. Typically, he avoided getting drunk because his wife was reluctant to serve him due to her concerns for his health.
Hayden fell silent. Since her parents wanted to have dinner with Kevin, she, who had initially planned to return home to see her parents before leaving, was left waiting at home for dinner. With still some time before mealtime, she felt quite bored and slightly uneasy.
The main reason for her discomfort was Kevin’s occasional glances toward her. She couldn’t tell if she was overthinking it, but she sensed that Kevin looked at her in a way that felt unusual.
“Ah, it’s Kevin’s first time at our house. Since it’s not yet time for dinner, why don’t you take him out for a walk to help him get familiar with the surroundings?” Mrs. Queen suggested, noticing her daughter’s impatience. She wanted to ensure that her daughter wouldn’t lose patience and leave without having dinner.
Although this was her house, Hayden often treated it like a hotel due to her busy work schedule, usually leaving right after meals. Sometimes she would stay overnight, but it never felt like home to her; instead, she felt like a guest.
Hayden accepted her mother’s suggestion and said to Kevin, “Mr. York, I’ll take you for a walk.”
Kevin stood up with a smile and walked out of the main house alongside her. Once outside, he remarked, “Mr. Queen, it seems like you’re not entirely comfortable in your own home. You don’t usually live here.”
“Right?”
Hayden replied, “The old mansion is too far from the company. I bought a house closer to work, where I usually live, and I rarely go home.”
Kevin nodded in understanding, “It’s similar for us brothers. We seldom return to Wildridge Manor, but since we grew up in the Villa, we have a strong attachment to it. Visiting the Villa occasionally feels like returning to our main battlefield, offering a sense of freedom.”
Unlike Hayden, who felt like an outsider in her old mansion, Kevin found sitting on the sofa to be uncomfortable.
After a moment of silence, Hayden added, “I only go back to the old mansion for a few days during the New Year.”
Although the Queen family’s old mansion was not a villa like the York family’s, it still covered a large area. The layout was impressive, and the scenery was beautiful; it was a modern garden villa.
“Mr. York, since you’re on a business trip to Jensburg, is something wrong with the hotel?” Hayden asked Kevin, trying to spark a conversation.
A hotel owned by the Queens was located diagonally across from the York’s hotel. Both establishments were considered seven-star hotels and ranked among Jensburg’s most upscale and luxurious accommodations.
Due to competition, the two hotels occasionally experienced minor conflicts, but these were minimal since both were thriving.
Jensburg was the Queens’ primary territory, and the Yorks generally did not venture too far. The Queens were cautious of the Yorks and would never attack their hotel. Any minor disputes were typically caused by patrons, and there was no need for concern; the hotel management could resolve such issues themselves.
Given this “hostile” relationship, Hayden was well aware of the hotel across the street and had never heard of any issues concerning the Yorks’ establishment.
Kevin smiled and said, “Mr. Queen, let me be honest with you. The business trip is a ruse, and the truth is that I am trying to escape my parents’ pressure to marry. You must have heard that my second brother is now engaged. With my eldest brother already married and my second brother recently engaged, I find myself in third place. The two barriers in front of me are ineffective, leaving all the pressure directed at me. If I don’t find a way to escape, I’ll be overwhelmed.”
Hayden: “…”
