Jasmine remarked, “He didn’t just start complaining now; he’s been complaining for a while. Serenity mentioned that she has never received a love letter. To win over her husband, she had to put in a lot of effort to write one herself.”
Zachary, a domineering man, was somewhat easy to modify, yet his core nature was challenging to change. It was expected that he would eventually have gray hair and become a grandfather or even a great-grandfather, possessing such admirable qualities.
As long as Serenity was willing to be patient with him, everything would be fine.
The cycle of one complaint followed by one act of affection could be enjoyable for the couple; outsiders merely listened without needing to intervene.
Josh looked at her enviously and said, “Zachary received a love letter from his wife, yet I haven’t received one. Jasmine, why don’t you write me a love letter so I can experience it?”
Jasmine replied, “What is it like to receive a love letter from a wife?”
Josh responded, “I think Zachary is genuinely happy sometimes, and his cold demeanor can’t conceal his joy. Anyone who isn’t blind can see that. I suspect it’s because he received a letter from his wife—a love letter, specifically.”
Jasmine neither agreed nor disagreed but said, “I’ve never written a love letter before. I don’t know how to do it, so I looked it up on Google, but I didn’t like what I found. So, I’m trying to come up with something original for you. It’s very challenging. If I can’t write it, I can’t sleep or eat, and I’m preoccupied with how to write it day and night.”
“No, you don’t need to write it. I’ll handle it for you. Please, don’t write anymore. I’ll write it for you instead.” As soon as Jasmine mentioned her lack of experience in writing love letters, Josh felt delighted, believing that he would indeed write her a love letter, making Jasmine the first recipient.
Josh received a love letter, but when he heard Jasmine express her struggle to write it—how she couldn’t eat or sleep, and thought about it constantly—he felt upset. She had become the most significant person in their family’s history. If her inability to eat or sleep was due to writing a love letter, he would blame himself and feel sorry for her, fearing that the elders in his family would come after him with large knives.
His parents no longer regarded him as their son; they only saw Jasmine as their daughter-in-law.
Josh said, “Do you really need to write it? I want to experience what it’s like to write a love letter to someone I love.”
Jasmine replied, “Tonight I’ll think about how to write it. I’ve read many love stories, but I’m unsure how to be original. I’ll gather the romantic phrases spoken by the heroines to their heroes and summarize them; I should be able to create a love letter of a few thousand words. I’ll get the paper and pen and start writing right away.”
As Jasmine moved to get out of bed for the paper and pen, Josh hugged her tightly, refusing to let her leave. He smiled and said, “I told you not to worry about it, dear. Let’s go to bed early. Just focus on eating well, getting enough rest, and living each day to the fullest.”
“However, while Zachary has already received Serenity’s love letter, you haven’t received mine yet,” Jasmine pointed out.
“We’re so happy because we don’t need to imitate anyone; they are them, and we are us. Honestly, a good-night kiss is worth ten love letters,” he replied.
Jasmine sighed in resignation and said, “Then please don’t mention wanting to receive the love letter I wrote. I love you deeply, but I can’t allow you to feel wronged. If Zachary has received some, I want you to have them too.”
