Zachary mentioned this several times. There was no other option but to comfort her brother-in-law in this way. When her younger sister went on a long trip, her brother-in-law appeared to be struggling, which left Liberty a bit bewildered. However, she recognized the couple’s strong bond, knowing that Zachary was accustomed to having his wife by his side. The young couple shared a good relationship, and Liberty felt happy for her sister.
“Why doesn’t your sister cook for you?” Liberty considered making a bowl of wonton soup for her brother-in-law. Zachary shook his head and replied, “No need. It’s not that my sister’s cooking isn’t delicious; I just have no appetite. Thinking about Serenity abandoning me to travel with Grandma—without even informing me of her new phone number—makes me feel really uneasy. Sister, do I have dark circles under my eyes? I can’t sleep well either.”
Liberty was at a loss for words. “Sister, tell me, did I do something wrong?” Zachary often felt he must have done something to deserve his grandma’s disapproval, otherwise, she wouldn’t have convinced Serenity to go on a trip with her. Grandma knew he had a strong desire to be with Serenity, wishing he could be by her side 24/7.
“I noticed it, but I didn’t think you did anything wrong. If I hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t know,” Liberty replied. Zachary sighed, “That’s just how my grandma is—she acts suddenly and seems to enjoy causing chaos. I never see it coming and can’t figure it out.”
He pondered where he had gone wrong. Liberty suggested, “Maybe Grandma just wanted to have some fun and asked Serenity to join her. Zachary, don’t overthink it.” Zachary remained silent. Liberty felt confused.
Grandma May.
Zachary was raised by his grandmother, and they shared a wonderful bond. Liberty understood exactly what kind of person Grandma was.
Grandma must be playing tricks on him.
Now, Zachary could only hope that when his wife was being playful with Grandma, she would still remember him as her husband.
“Ring, ring, ring…”
Liberty’s cell phone suddenly rang.
She pulled out her phone and noticed it was an unfamiliar number. She immediately said to Zachary, “Zachary, it might be Serenity calling me; it’s an unknown number.”
Zachary replied, “Sister, answer it quickly and see if it’s Serenity.”
Liberty nodded and answered the call.
“Mom.” Sonny’s young voice came through.
Liberty immediately laughed, “Sonny, do you miss Mom? Why are you calling now? Mom misses you too.”
“Call Mom.” Sonny spoke with a hint of guilt. He had been having so much fun that he forgot to call his mother, but now he remembered and quickly borrowed his uncle’s phone to reach out to her.
