Remy smiled wryly and said, “Mr. Bucham, your actions frighten me more than the sky falling.”
Julian replied, “Mr. Johnson, as I just mentioned, my only goal is to pursue Ms. Stone and compete fairly against you. You need to put in more effort. If I truly catch up with Ms. Stone, Mr. Johnson, you will be the one to suffer; after all, I have an advantage over you, being from Wiltspoon.”
Remy remained silent.
Even though Mr. Johnson was not particularly fond of Elisa, he found the situation somewhat interesting, providing a welcome distraction from his boredom.
“Let’s go,” Julian said as he walked ahead.
Remy and Elisa followed him.
Elisa reassured Remy, “Regardless of Mr. Bucham’s intentions, he doesn’t truly like me, so you don’t need to worry.”
Then Remy added, feeling the pressure of a new love rival, “Another person has entered the picture—Mr. Bucham. Does Auntie dislike me that much?”
He suspected that Julian was another love rival orchestrated by Mrs. Stone.
Andrew already made Remy feel a sense of urgency.
Julian intensified that stress.
After a moment of silence, Elisa said, “When I get home, I will talk to my mother and emphasize that I won’t like any other man but you. My mother disapproves of us, but we’ve always been in love. One day, she will accept it. If she tries to separate us, I’ll vow to remain single and be an old maid for the rest of my life.”
In that scenario, it would be her mother who would face the challenge.
Remy grasped her hand tightly and said, “Perhaps I haven’t done enough to ease Auntie’s concerns about letting you marry me. I will continue to strive for that. I believe one day Auntie will come to accept us.”
She agreed to marry Elisa and was open to visiting her son-in-law. “Let’s go. Don’t worry; there will be a rainbow after the storm,” she said. Elisa held a bouquet in one hand while affectionately linking her arm with Remy’s, offering him comfort with this gesture. Since Julian was with them, Elisa asked Remy to take her home right after they left the airport. She also wanted to find out if Julian’s interference was her mother’s idea. Elisa felt that her mother lacked the influence needed to persuade Julian to pursue her.
At the Stones’ villa, Audrey accompanied her daughter-in-law, Alice, on a walk in the yard. From a distance, she noticed two cars parked in front of the villa. As they got closer, Audrey recognized one of them belonged to Remy. Remy was quite persistent; regardless of her displeasure, he visited every day, even when Elisa was away on business. He never missed a day, and if there was something new to share, he would promptly send it to the Stone family.
“Mr. Johnson is here,” Alice remarked, also recognizing Remy’s car. She smiled and added, “Elisa returned today and didn’t arrange for a driver to pick her up at the airport, so Mr. Johnson must have come to get her.”
After a moment of silence, Audrey spoke, “Alice, do you think Mom is trying to break them apart by insisting like this? Remy is a wonderful young man. He isn’t the eldest son, so he doesn’t have to take over the family business. His responsibilities are relatively lighter, allowing him more time with his wife. Elisa is truly in love with him again. I believe they will be very happy together.”
Alice replied, “Mom, we all know you’re acting in Elisa’s best interest. Let’s wait and see. If Mr. Johnson can keep this up, we can safely entrust Elisa to him.”
Audrey acknowledged with a nod.
