Kevin was unaware that Hank was no longer in danger. He had little regard for the life and death of a scoundrel. All he knew was that the entire Brown family felt regret. “After that mistress became a regular, even though she married a scoundrel, she didn’t have a son and a half. She was pregnant but suffered a miscarriage after a struggle. These are consequences. I used to hear people say that good things happen; good deeds are rewarded, and evil is repaid with evil. It’s not that there’s no reward; it’s just that the time hasn’t come yet.

I always thought that was just talk. If retribution were so prevalent, there wouldn’t be so many people committing wrongdoings. But seeing the downfall of the Brown family makes me believe in retribution.”

The fate of Hank’s family was, indeed, the quickest example of retribution Kevin had ever witnessed. After hearing this, Hayden felt quite pleased.

Hayden commented, “Divorce is a good thing. I worry that Ms. Liberty might endure the situation for the sake of the children and hesitate to divorce. After a man cheats, the woman often suppresses her feelings to keep the family together. I can’t bear to see that happen.”

“A man who cheats already harbors feelings of dislike or even indifference towards her. Her tears will only annoy him further. It’s better to grant him freedom, but she must fight for her legal rights in the divorce. It’s unfair for a scoundrel to benefit. Who was awarded custody of Ms. Liberty’s son?”

Kevin replied, “Sonny’s custody was granted to Sister Liberty. Honestly, when Sister Liberty divorced, if it weren’t for my older brother’s pressure, she might have had to file for divorce herself, and she might not have received equal property distribution. That scoundrel secretly saved a significant amount of money in his father’s name without informing Sister Liberty.”

After a moment of silence, Hayden said,

“That’s true. We have been advocating for gender equality for decades, yet women continue to face unfair treatment in society. Many women wish to divorce, but they often find themselves at a disadvantage due to men’s calculations. If a woman leaves her home, she risks losing custody of her child.

The current state of marriage in this society instills fear in women about getting married, leading more and more people to avoid marriage and childbearing.

It’s generally easier to be a man, which is why she hesitated to fully embrace her identity as a woman.

Kevin remarked, “That’s not enough to sway a large number of people. There are still many honorable men who won’t cheat. For example, I am one of those good, upright men who are loyal and treat their wives with respect.”

Hayden glanced at him twice, wanting to laugh but unable to contain herself.

“Mr. York, you haven’t eaten yet. Stop talking so much. If you don’t eat soon, your food will get cold and lose its flavor,” Hayden reminded him with a smile.

Kevin grinned, “Are you concerned about my empty stomach? I know you appear cold but have a warm heart. You actually appreciate me, don’t you? Hayden, you should be honest. If you appreciate me, express it openly instead of hiding it.”

Hayden wasn’t angry; she replied, “Though you can be irritating and incredibly shameless, disrupting my peaceful life, I must admit that I truly admire your abilities—not just you, but the entire York family.”
