Kevin immediately brightened up and said, “Hayden, you have a vision. Our York family boys are all excellent and definitely not related to scoundrels. It’s great if you appreciate us, but I still hope you appreciate me even more… haha.”

Hayden looked at him and suddenly asked, “Kevin, did your grandma choose me to be your wife?”

She contemplated this question for a moment, feeling that it was the only explanation for the York family’s consistent reactions. Moreover, it was strange that Kevin knew she was a woman so easily.

People said that Kevin had sharp eyes and could tell she was a woman at first glance, but she found that hard to believe. After all, she hadn’t been around Kevin long, and no one had recognized her gender for over 20 years.

If anyone could have discovered her identity, it would have been Old Mrs. York. The old lady was influential in her youth and had a knack for gathering information. Even now, the Bucham family in Wiltspoon frequently sought her insights.

Hayden genuinely wondered when the old lady had first noticed her and how Kevin figured out she was a woman.

Kevin picked up a piece of food with his chopsticks and replied, “Why do you think that? Is it impossible for me to approach you because I like you and want to pursue you?”

Hayden responded, “No matter how open-minded your family is, they would still struggle to accept the fact that you are gay. Your pursuit of me has stirred up quite the controversy in Jensburg and Wiltspoon. The elders in your family haven’t intervened to stop it or to discourage you from pursuing me.

This is unusual. I even reached out to your grandma, and she replied, ‘Didn’t Kevin tell you? I’m the chosen wife, right?'”

Kevin smiled and said, “Hayden, you’re so clever; it’s not even fun anymore.”

“Enough!”

Hayden sighed inwardly, realizing she had fallen into the hands of old lady York. At least it wasn’t Kevin’s doing.

“Why is your grandma staring at me?” Hayden asked, her curiosity piqued.

“I have no idea,” Kevin replied between bites. “I’m just as puzzled about why she’s focused on you.”

“What’s wrong with me? Am I bad?” Hayden instinctively pushed back against his comment.

With a smile, Kevin looked at her, and Hayden recognized that her words might lead him to misinterpret her.

She wanted to clarify, but the explanation seemed to spiral into a darker place, so she chose to remain silent.

“Hayden, if you know the reason, don’t stubbornly resist anymore. Even if you’re not the grandma who gifted me this, I’m genuinely interested in you. Every time I see you, I’m half annoyed and half happy.”

Hayden could only respond with a silent expression.

The jerk was clearly deriving joy from her discomfort.

Under the table, she lifted her foot and stepped hard on Kevin’s. He winced in pain, nearly jumping up, but ended up hitting the table again, intensifying the ache.

Hayden took pleasure in her lunch.

Once she finished eating, she pulled out a napkin to wipe the grease from her mouth and said flatly, “Thank you, Mr. York, for inviting me to dinner. Mr. Zhan, your cooking skills are truly exceptional.”

“Of course! With nine brothers, I have the best cooking skills. Hayden, you deserve the finest meals. Once we’re married, I’ll cook delicious dishes for you every day,” Kevin replied.

Hayden chuckled, “Kevin, I never said I would marry you!”
