Kathryn understood Mrs. Stone’s message.

What Mrs. Stone meant was that while she might not reclaim Farrell’s house, her priority was to uncover the truth behind her parents’ and family members’ deaths.

Kathryn thought of the chaotic Farrell family—the love her parents, brother, and sister-in-law had for Shiloh, and the resentment and eagerness of the clan members toward them. She felt a strong urge to escape.
