“Grandma, Grandpa is watching over us from the sky, and he is very relieved.”
Zachary listened to his grandmother’s words and embraced them.
Grandma May smiled and added, “As long as you marry and have children, your grandpa will be at ease. What he worries about most is his oldest grandson. He has invested the most love in you.”
“When he was a father, he didn’t express much affection for his son, but as a grandfather, he adored his grandson. In the past, some of your father’s actions would draw criticism from your grandfather. But in your generation, no matter what you do, it’s always a cause for celebration.”
The next generation of relatives was reflected in Grandpa’s legacy.
Serenity had never met her grandfather, making it difficult for her to respond.
Zachary was raised by his grandparents, and he held a deep affection for them.
He helped Grandma sit at the dining table and said with a smile, “Do I resemble Grandpa when he was young? When I have children, I intend to be a strict father. But with my grandson, I will shower him with love.”
As relatives in the next generation become grandparents, they naturally mellow with age. Additionally, many families today have fewer children, often just one, which leads to the elderly showering them with affection.
“These dumplings were made by Liberty. Let’s see how much your cooking skills have improved,” Grandma May said, shifting the topic away from her husband, as it felt too heavy.
Serenity helped her grandmother pick up a steamed dumpling.
After tasting it, Grandma May smiled and remarked, “These are as good as the shrimp dumplings served in restaurants. Liberty, I haven’t seen you in a while, and you’ve improved significantly. Your new restaurant is about to open!”
“I’m ready, but I don’t think my cooking skills are up to par. I’m good at home cooking, but I don’t know much about preparing dishes. Mr. Lewis suggested that I enroll in a cooking class, and I intend to go after I finish work. I’ll learn and then come back to practice.”
Cooking is an art perfected through practice; she can only do her best by learning from her mistakes.
Grandma May said, “You’re very self-motivated. I like you a lot. When you become the owner of a big restaurant in the future, you must prepare a delicious meal for me.”
Liberty smiled and replied, “Of course!”
Everyone enjoyed breakfast, but just as Serenity set down the bowls and chopsticks, she felt nauseous. Covering her mouth, she rushed to the bathroom to vomit.
“Seren,” Zachary called out as he hurried after her.
Seeing her retch so violently, Zachary gently patted her back, expressing concern, “You just ate, and now you’re throwing up.”
She hadn’t vomited the night before.
Remembering how Alice had experienced severe nausea during her pregnancy and how Clive had wanted Alice to go to the hospital to terminate the pregnancy out of love for her, Serenity felt a pang of empathy.
At that time, she had encouraged Clive, and Zachary was aware of the situation.
Clive had expressed that he couldn’t understand the distress that came with it.
Now, Zachary understood.
He hadn’t witnessed Serenity vomit at FC Manor. When they returned to Wildridge Manor, she hadn’t vomited then, so he didn’t expect her to be sick now.
She had only recently begun to show signs of pregnancy, and she was uncertain about when or if she would continue to vomit throughout her pregnancy, like some women do.
Zachary felt a sudden urge, but he didn’t…
He no longer wanted children, and he didn’t want his wife to endure that pain. Zachary hesitated to voice his feelings, especially considering how his sister Liberty and grandmother treated him; even Seren would be anxious about it. Serenity had longed for this child for so long and had endured so much pressure. After Serenity vomited, Zachary quickly grabbed a tissue to wipe her mouth and then assisted her out of the bathroom. Liberty and Grandma May also appeared stressed.
