Josh also acknowledged that since Jasmine became pregnant, his parents and even his uncles placed a high value on the baby growing inside her, restricting Jasmine from doing various things. She was required to eat three meals a day according to the dietitian’s guidelines, and he often prevented her from going out, concerned that she might get hurt.
The older family members wanted Jasmine to remain at home to raise the baby. When Jasmine expressed a desire to go shopping, they persuaded her through various means and asked her to compile a list of items she wanted. The housekeeper would then assist her in purchasing these items.
Jasmine’s status as a “national treasure” cast a shadow over Serenity, which is why she felt the need to “negotiate” with Zachary when she was newly pregnant. There is a saying that comparison breeds discontent.
Before Serenity’s pregnancy, Josh was exceedingly kind to Jasmine, making it difficult for her to voice any concerns. However, upon Serenity’s pregnancy announcement, Jasmine found herself envious of Zachary’s understanding and support for Serenity, leading her to complain to her husband.
Many women look forward to resting at home during pregnancy, but out of necessity, they must continue working, often until the third trimester. In contrast, Jasmine felt that she didn’t need to work; it simply bored her.
“Husband, thank you,” Jasmine said, taking his hand and pressing it against her face. He was incredibly kind to her.
The older generation’s mindset was hard to change, but Josh was doing everything he could to protect her.
“Please don’t take my earlier words to heart; I only said that in a moment of frustration,” she admitted. Deep down, she understood how much Josh cherished her, but her words still caused him pain.
Josh responded, “I didn’t take it to heart. If you’re unhappy with me, you need to express it. Don’t keep it bottled up and hurt yourself.”
I feel bad. If you don’t express your thoughts, I won’t know what I did wrong. This situation can’t be changed. As I mentioned before, I don’t want you to envy anyone, even if she is your best friend. I want you to be the one others envy.”
From their blind date to their marriage, the young couple’s journey was smooth, free from significant ups and downs or unexpected twists. While they may not be as perfect as Zachary and Serenity, Josh made a genuine effort to understand and tolerate his wife.
Josh said, “Wife, if anything is bothering you in the future, you need to tell me.”
Jasmine smiled and replied, “Okay, as long as you’re not worried about your self-esteem, I will speak up.”
Josh assured her, “I’m thick-skinned and open-minded. I’m not concerned about my self-esteem. What truly worries me is that you may be dissatisfied with me but don’t communicate what’s bothering you. I don’t want to end up worse than Zachary. Oh, the pressure of having such an outstanding friend and boss is overwhelming.”
Despite this, both wives remained good friends.
If Jasmine didn’t compare Josh to Zachary, he would do so unconsciously.
Jasmine admitted, “It’s my fault; I’ve put too much pressure on you. I just don’t recognize my blessings…”
Josh abruptly pulled his beloved wife into his arms, catching her off guard and interrupting her unfinished sentence.
He said, “My wife, you shouldn’t say such things. My family has many expectations of you, and I understand that this can be difficult for you.”
When Jasmine was younger, she aspired to break free and create her own path.
Serenity and Elisa opened a bookstore together, and knowing their desire to invest in a fruit and vegetable company, she confidently joined the venture to contract a large field in the countryside for cultivation. Initially, it was a partnership among three people, focused on their shared business goals. However, due to her pregnancy, she was encouraged to stay home to raise her baby and become a young grandmother, free from concerns about food and clothing. It’s likely that she feels a sense of depression about being excluded from the business.
