The nutritionist glanced at her aunt and, noticing her silence, paused her conversation. After all, she was her aunt’s daughter-in-law, and the baby she carried would be the next generation of the Bucham family. She had only been providing nutritional advice.

In truth, Mrs. Bucham didn’t have much to say. The sauerkraut was made by her in-laws, and her daughter-in-law wouldn’t be returning to her family home to eat it every day. A few servings wouldn’t cause any harm.

“I’m going to the bathroom,” Jasmine announced before quickly leaving the room.

Once she was gone, the nutritionist said softly, “Auntie, do you think Jasmine will blame me for being too talkative or too lenient? She shouldn’t consume too many pickled products—normal people should eat less of them. But Jasmine enjoys them so much. Did she go back to her mother’s house because she thinks my recipes don’t suit her taste? You asked me to come over to check on her, and I only did so out of respect for you and Josh.”

Mrs. Bucham gently reassured her niece, “Pregnant women often have different cravings. Sometimes they strongly desire something and want it immediately. The recipe you created for Jasmine is excellent and nutritious, combining both meat and vegetables. She looks healthier and has gained some weight, which is good for her complexion.

Keep in mind that she has lived with her family for over 20 years and is accustomed to her mother’s cooking. It’s normal for her to crave some familiar comfort foods. Don’t take it personally; Jasmine isn’t like that. She appreciates you, and we can’t say she shouldn’t return to her mother’s house for meals, right?

She doesn’t eat much—just once or twice—and she’ll be fine. She has a prenatal checkup coming up.”

During the checkup, the doctor confirmed that the baby is developing normally. “She can eat, and that is a blessing,” Mrs. Bucham stated.

She continued, “Now, her best friend Serenity is also pregnant. It is expected that the York family will arrange for a nutritionist to create a meal plan for Serenity. If the two of them have support, she won’t mind. Don’t take it personally.”

After a moment of silence, the nutritionist replied, “I’m doing this for the baby’s well-being and for her benefit. If she truly dislikes the three meals a day that I’ve recommended and they don’t suit her appetite, it’s fine. She can eat whatever she prefers. Josh has read extensively about pregnancy; it’s perfectly acceptable for them to raise their baby according to those guidelines.”

Mrs. Bucham responded, “I understand that you are looking out for Jasmine and the baby. We won’t hold it against you. Don’t worry; Jasmine won’t either. You know her character well. She lives with her mother, and after twenty years, some habits can’t be changed overnight. Additionally, our family doesn’t impose many rules. What we are asking of Jasmine now is already quite strict. She is used to her freedom.”

The nutritionist remarked, “You have to make sacrifices to marry into a wealthy family.”

Her aunt’s family was well-off, comparable to the York family. Although Jasmine’s family was financially stable, there remained a noticeable difference compared to the Bucham family.

Jasmine transitioned easily into her new life, and her in-laws were very kind to her. They didn’t impose too many restrictions but encouraged her to care for her baby at home during her pregnancy, avoid excessive activity, and pay attention to her diet.

However, even that seemed challenging for Jasmine.

Mrs. Bucham stated, “Our family doesn’t concern itself with such matters. As long as the young couple is happy, that’s all I want as a mother. It’s quite rare for Josh to agree to marriage. I’m very pleased, and Jasmine has her merits.”

The nutritionist pursed her lips and remarked quietly, “I still don’t believe she’s suitable for my cousin, but given the circumstances, it’s difficult to voice any objections.”

Mrs. Bucham smiled and replied, “Indeed, there’s no need to say anything.”

The nutritionist fell silent.

Meanwhile, Jasmine, who had finished her business in the bathroom a while ago, chose to remain hidden. She overheard her mother-in-law and the nutritionist discussing her situation and, thanks to her keen hearing, was able to catch their conversation clearly.

As the nutritionist was part of her mother-in-law’s family, Jasmine felt she couldn’t voice her thoughts. Although the nutritionist was serious and strict, she wouldn’t take any action against her.

While her mother-in-law had certain expectations of Jasmine, they were not enforced. If Jasmine chose to disregard them, her mother-in-law wouldn’t raise an issue.
