Another bodyguard requested leave today, leaving only one person to accompany Duncan. Liberty was concerned that the bodyguards might not be able to support him adequately. The remaining bodyguard did not refuse to help. Together, he and Liberty assisted Duncan in getting into the car. Once Duncan was seated, Liberty thoughtfully helped him fasten his seatbelt, while the bodyguards placed the wheelchair in the trunk.

Duncan gazed at Liberty, and as she helped him with the seatbelt, the closeness between them made it difficult for him to control his hands. He felt an overwhelming desire to hug her but ultimately managed to restrain himself. With Liberty increasingly treating him like family, he realized that any impulsive actions might undermine his previous efforts.

Liberty remarked, “Mr. Lewis, you really don’t need to see me off; the road isn’t far.” Duncan looked at her intently and replied, “I can’t feel at ease unless I see you and Sonny enter the house myself.” Not to mention, they still had ten minutes of driving ahead.

After a moment of silence, Liberty seemed to want to say something but, despite Duncan’s anticipation, she remained quiet, stepped back, and gently closed the car door. Duncan wasn’t disappointed; he understood that he needed to give Liberty time to accept him. Grandma May had assured him that persistence would win her over.

Liberty’s attitude towards him had changed significantly. Ever since he confessed his love, she had been avoiding being alone with him. However, now she no longer shied away, interacted with him openly, and seemed unconcerned about what others might say. This was a clear indication of Liberty’s transformation. Grandma May had explained that given Liberty’s previous experience with a failed marriage, she would naturally be more cautious.

remarry. Even if he was exceptionally talented and believed he would be a devoted man, have no fear; wait for Liberty to slowly untie the knot. Only two individuals could have a future.

Liberty’s career grew gradually. As she gained fame, her self-confidence soared. If he were to propose to her, he would undoubtedly succeed.

Liberty returned to her car.

With Duncan’s assistance, the mother and son made their way back to the rented building.

Liberty parked the car, exited, and got out with her son.

The Lewis family’s bodyguard had already exited his vehicle and approached to offer help, but Liberty politely declined: “If there’s an elevator, I’ll just carry Sonny.”

The bodyguard replied, “Ms. Hunt, Fourth Young Master asked me to take you upstairs.”

Liberty glanced at Duncan, who was watching her from the car window. She waved to him to say goodbye and good night.

Duncan smiled and waved back.

The night was quite dark, so Liberty didn’t linger and walked into the building with her sleeping son in her arms, escorted by the Lewis family’s bodyguard.

Fortunately, the bodyguard guided them upstairs. As soon as they entered the elevator, Liberty was startled to find a drunk man rambling incoherently inside.

The drunk squinted at the two of them for a long moment but continued his nonsensical chatter without attempting any further interaction.

Liberty pressed the buttons for several floors, not wanting the drunk to know which floor she lived on.

When they reached the first floor she selected, the elevator door opened, and she quickly stepped out.

With Sonny in her arms, the bodyguard exited the elevator alongside her. The drunk continued to stare at Liberty. Once the elevator doors closed, Liberty let out a sigh of relief and remarked to the Lewis family’s bodyguard, “I’ve never encountered a situation like that before.” The bodyguard replied, “Ms. Hunt, you can move to the villa that Young Master York has provided for you. It’s safer there. Our Fourth Young Master also has a villa nearby, making it convenient for him to take you home.” Liberty had not kept any of Zachary’s betrothal gifts meant for Serenity and intended to return them to her sister, as they rightfully belonged to her as well.
